Big Bad Beef Rub color

When I mix up the Big Bad Beef Rub the rub is kind of a sandy beige, not the burnt orange color it appears to be in this web page: https://amazingribs.com/tested-recip...ef-rub-recipe/ Am I doing something wrong? This is what I get.

Chili and Cayenne powders added? Just mixed some this weekend and mine looks like the article photos as it always does.

I get different results sometimes depending on the spices I’m using. Sometimes it’s much lighter like yours. Can’t tell any taste difference.

Try adding Paprika for color,

Tastes great, was just worried about the measurements, thought I had something wrong. Shouldn't matter after the smoke is on it. Thank you for the responses.

I have actually never tried it because I have a similar rub that is almost identical with the exception of paprika. I agree with bbqLuv . If my rub didn’t have 1/2 cup of smoked paprika in it, it would be close to the color you are showing.

Agreed.
My homemade rub is probably 30-40% paprika and I do add Cayenne and Chili powders to the mix.
Even most commercial rubs are up there in paprika content.
