Mashing Potatoes with a Food Mill

Anyone tried this? I got an Oxo GoodGrips food mill for Christmas and was thinking about using it for the mashed potatoes tonight.

Depends on how you like them. Those things are great if you like the steakhouse mash thats almost a puree. If you like a little bit of chunk then id skip.

We have a food mill and I may try to convince my wife to use it today, she usually uses a potato masher and she likes to add milk and butter to her potatoes. We are cooking a small Turkey today in the oven with dressing, I would sooner smoke it.

        Yup.
Along with milk and butter we add twoish tablespoons of sour cream to bum it up a notch

To us homemade mashed potatoes needs lumps so we continue to hand mash or rice the potatoes. To each their own so enjoy.

Agreed, I like my mashed with some chunks, y'know something you can bite into.
The rest of the ingrates you'd swear all had broken jaws and need to suck them thru a straw.

I love being called an ingrate. Nothing more Merry on Christmas…. Lol.

I prefer hand mashed. A bit more rustic, a little less fussy.

The food mill worked really well and my wife loved the texture while I tend to prefer the hand mashed texture. Also, a lot easier to clean a hand masher than a food mill. Good thing I didn't get the food mill specifically for mashed potatoes. :-)
