Pulling a Pork Butt a Stand Mixer

This technique has been discussed here before and I thought some folks might want to see it in action. Below is a video from tonight. It shows me pulling an ~8 lb smoked butt using my KitchenAid stand mixer with the dough hook. I broke The butt into several chunks by hand so it would fit in the mixer bowl. The video is real time, no editing. The whole thing took about 40 seconds.

Good idea but there's just something about getting my hands all up into that delicious meat, grabbing bark and popping pieces into my mouth and coming away with steaming glasses that does something therapeutic for my soul. Besides I don't own a stand mixer...so there's that

I cook 2 butts at a time, after snacking/tasting/trying on the first one there's very little left
      Family gets the second one

      I like some bigger chunks.

The other benefit is not burning your hands. I'm going to have to give it a try next time.

Nitrile gloves with liners does wonders.

That's what I do now. I actually use my cut resistant gloves with nitrile gloves over them. Looking forward to trying the new way.

Certainly quick and easy! Too bad I do not have one of those mixers. It’s still the bear claws for me. Plus I get to nibble as I go. 😋

I would say a big benefit here would not be hurting your back. My back always hurts after hunching over too shred a few pork butts... counters aren’t high enough for me.

Nate get yourself a bar stool and sit on it. Takes all the strain off the back. I know..

Too bad you couldn’t put it in a warm corner, cover it in plastic wrap and come back in an hour and have it double in size !!!!!! 🤣😂🤣👍👍👍

I have dough hooks for my hand mixer. I think it might even work better.

Great idea, especially for those of us with arthritic hands. Will be trying this on the next one.

Mr. Bones I have a set of Meatrakes that are pretty ergonomic for shredding, but after about about 5 minutes with forks, bear claws, or hand pulling my hands will ache the rest of the day/night. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfbvJOUKpVM
