First time using vertical rack for ribs...

So I had about 20 people coming over for Christmas party last night and I wanted to cook some ribs. Had to cook them vertically because 3 racks of spare ribs wouldn’t fit on the Large BGE. I’m glad I started it early because after it’s all said and done it took 7 hours from start to finish for my larger racks. Here are some pics.

What did you think? I can get 3 racks on a LBGE using a second shelf and cutting them in half. Did you reorient them halfway through?

Ya I moved them from back to front. I cut them in half to get them to fit. I probably should get a second rack. The rack I have is pretty wide so they were pretty much getting held up from falling down. Many of them were touching.

Another option would be to roll each rack into a circle with a slight overlap and run a skewer through the overlap all the way through the other side. I'm sure you could get at least 3 racks in the GE that way - maybe more. This is not my idea, and there are some photos of this somewhere in the Pit.

Great idea, using the concept of a crown roast.

Oh well thanks. That does sound like a good option. Never thought of that.

I rolled eight Baby Back Racks, and put them on my 26” Kettle. Not my best cook, but what the heck Ya gotta learn somehow, I am getting used to the hard way.

I use a rib rack when I do them on the 22” Weber. I move them front to back, and give a single flip.

I love my BGE, but the size can be inconvenient for some things. Most of the time it is fine, and then I want to make 3 racks of ribs!
