    Tying Butt

    #2
I never have, but it may help keep the hooks from pulling out, if you don't take it to the grate.

Helps to keep it from tearing free from the hook(s) and falling into the coals if its hung.

So, you hang it but don't tie it??? If so, have you ever had it tear loose and fall into the coals? Would it work to hang it up to a certain temperature and then move it to the grate? Please advise. THanks much.

Jim check out the PBC videos. I tie mine just like Noah. Typically I leave them on the hooks the whole time.

I usually hang it until I wrap at about 180 F then go to the grate. Never lost a single butt. Except when I botched it one time while removing them. But it wasn't a bit deal at all. Grabbed it right away and all was just fine. If you hook it right you should have no worries.

If I were to cook mine to the same internal temp as always, there's no way a hook would hold onto it when it was finished cooking. Tying it would keep it together.

I don't tie mine. The few times I have, I use those high-temp silicone bands. They don't come untied and they are easy to put on. They work pretty well.

If your gonna tie, this is the way to do it. Craigar

I don't tie mine, but I normally cut them in half to create more bark. This also lightens the load on the hooks.
