Lighting a 26" w/ SnS XL for Turkey

    Hi All!

I'll be smoking a turkey next week, and this is the first year I will have both a Weber 26" and a SnS XL. According to the Adrenaline BBQ site in the "More Longevity - for a little longer, hotter cook" section, it says "Add half a chimney (~40 briquets) of unlit coals to the Slow ‘N Sear first, then add the half chimney of well-lit coals on top."

I'm assuming these instructions are for a regular sized SnS? If so, any recommendations on how I might change for the XL version?

    Thanks in advance!

    Scott

I'm interested in a definitive answer too if there is one. I would probably stick with the same amount, and add more charcoal if needed. Or I would just use slightly more charcoal both lit and unlit.

As a rule of thumb expect to go with about 20% more charcoal than what our instructions and recipes say when using the XL. It takes more charcoal both to heat up as well as to maintain heat.

Well, there's the definitive answer I was hoping for.

Coincidentally someone sent this very same question to our website. We may need to add an FAQ.

trasmc. Attjack watch out, Dave is like a Meat Ninja. Slicing here and there with answers to questions and comments. Giving the Ritz customer service a run for thier money. Let's see you find that service elsewhere.

It wasn't me either, but every time I reference abcbarbecue.com for guidance I have the same question in my head.
