So, my Dad just texted me to let me know that he just bought a brisket that was on sale for $1.50/lb. He's going to freeze it, and bring it to me this weekend when we see them.
Ron is right. But I’d have him check the date on the brisket. If it’s still gonna be ok by the time he gets there, I wouldn’t have him freeze it. Keep it on ice for the trip, of course. But when possible, fresh is always better than frozen.
Check the "processed by" date on the cryovac. You can leave it in the cryovac to wet age for a couple/few weeks.
If you plan on taking longer than that to smoke it, I'd freeze it.

I freeze them all the time, as my trips to Costco don't usually coincide with times I will be cooking a brisket. Comparing to times I have not frozen versus have pulled it out of the freezer - I can't tell a difference.
