    Smoking wood for steaks

Hello everyone, new to the forum.

i generally don’t add wood chunks for my steak, but wanted to try. Problem is, right now I only have cherry. Will that go well with a steak? If not, what types do y’all usually use? Thanks!

I’ve found wood can easily overpower steaks. I think a mild wood like cherry is good.

I find a very little bit of white or post oak works well. I also pecan.

I want to try oak next. One of my favorite steakhouses uses oak, and I think the flavor from it is very good.

As mentioned above, start with just a small amount - may 2 oz. (Others may have different suggestions.). If you can't taste it, go to 4 oz the next time...

I found the smallest piece in the bag and that was all I went with this cook. I think it was a good amount. Just enough to let you know it was there and not overpower the steak.
