    Saving leftover avocado.

Don't you just hate it when you use half an avocado and the other half turns into some nasty alien food?
Well, vacuum seal to the rescue

The seed is there just to prevent crushing the fruit.

also, no Avocado for my toast

No oxidation. So the enzyme can't turn the flesh that nasty brown color. Great idea.

I always thought the vac sealer would crush the fruit flat.

That's why I kept the seed intact, to prevent crushing.

I wonder if you stuck it in a jar, and then used your foodsealer to seal the jar if you would get the same effect with easy access and no waste? I might give that a try.

I put one in a jar. I'll let you know how it goes.

Looks like it could be a good idea for leftover guac too - not that it happens very often.

It works for guac, too. Since I don't have a chamber sealer, I put the guac into a small dish and lay a single sheet of plastic wrap over it to inhibit guac migration while vacuum sealing (I use the MOIST setting):

After a few days in the fridge, it's as good as new:

I'll have to check him out Mr. Bones. If his home page has anything to do with the rest of the site I'm all in! It simply says: Cooking - Cast Iron - Cowboy.

        Great stuff!

We had a similar post on this a few months back from the humble MBMorgan. DocBlonder had some other wonderful tips on using & storing avocados for those that don't have a vac sealer here in that older post.

Thanks for the link to the older thread! I rarely battle having to consider leftover avocado options around here, but it’s nice to know how to when needed.

Wife and step-kids eat that green stuff, simply because they are not related to me.
