    Meat slicer review

I recently bought an inexpensive meat slicer. I like it but have learned the carriage is not wide enough for a typical belly.

I know you don’t love meat slicers, but I would love if you would review some!

Just ask the forum on what they recommend. You’ll get a boat load of comments.

      And welcome to the pit.

A buddy gave me an old Hobart 1612 that I refurbished. It's a commercial deli slicer and it's a beast, but it makes quick work of a belly! Look around craiglist/ebay/fb marketplace for an older used one, they don't make 'em like that anymore.

My best advice is to watch Craigslist and FB Marketplace for a good brand like Hobart, Berkel, Globe, Bizerba, etc. It might take a bit of looking bit eventually one should pop up for $200-400. All the smaller consumer grade models I have tried usually can't do the job but the bigger ones from those brands can slice 50 lbs of bacon without breaking a sweat.

I agree. My 1940 American Slicing Machine sliced the 25 lbs of bacon that I made a couple of months ago with no problems. Found it on ebay for $75.00 plus about $100 shipping back in 2012.

I agree. I just picked up a Berkel 9" deli and cheese slicer for $300.00. It had been used a couple times then put on a shelf. Previous owner got tired of looking at it so I grabbed it.

Yessir, and even if they appear to be in rough shape they can usually be refurbished pretty easily. When I got mine the motor worked well but everything else was frozen. I made contact with a company that services and sells parts for all manner of slicers and they helped me getting back to excellent shape with a couple of hundred bucks in parts and some elbow grease. I now have a unit that's worth over $1500 bucks (according to them).
