I changed cellular providers today. The first website I went to was AR. The home page comes up, but is inaccessible, due to an ad for Meathead's book. When I click on the "x" to close the ad, immediately I am thrown into an array of jumping from page after page automatically popping up saying my phone is infected with a virus, yada, yada, yada, due to visiting adult sites. (This is the first and only site I had tried to access, so the statement is clearly false).
Other sites seem to be working fine though.
Anyway, I cannot access the site from my android phone.
RonB I seriously doubt it. It's a "web thing". I can look in my history and see a number of sites it is redirecting me too. All fear tactic stuff... like "you have a Trojan", "we have released a new launcher, must update or phone will be locked", flashing warning signs and crap. I assume it is designed to get you to click on the page and then REALLY download something. I have not done that.
Also checked this morning if someone had fixed it yet, but no. This time I did not even click on anything. It just redirected after being on the page a short time.
Again, I still have not had an issue with any other webpages creating the same issues.
Also RonB, The site does treat people differently, if I remember correctly (at least used to), there were issues with long page loading times, due to many ads from distant places. Somewhere along the way, they set it up that paying members wouldn't have to suffer thru that mess. That being said, if you had ever logged in from your phone before, the site may be treating yours differently than it is treating my device, which has never been here before. Skipping loading certain ads and such. Still, that issue was nothing like what I am experiencing now.
For the admins... I can log in fine, using the phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot and my laptop. Cannot access the site from the phone directly.
So, I used the default android browser and went to the site (first time from the phone). Hit the X on the popup, and got redirected to a site congratulating me for winning something as a Verizon user. I'm not a Verizon user on this phone.
Repeated with VC browser which I installed a few days ago from the play store. Popup showed up, closed it, it stayed at the site.
I'd say it's something to do with the browser on the phone rather than the site. Try an alternative browser.
I also tried hitting the "not interested" tab, on the original pop-up for meathead's book, and was met with a pop-up saying I won something for being the 1000 visitor of the day. Your new browser may have better protection against this stuff, still there is still an issue here that needs dealt with.
This has been reported by some mobile users in the past. I have not seen a story like this from a desktop or laptop user. Has anyone experience this problem on anything other than mobile?
Yep. Some time later, the exact same thing happened on another site. Turns out the phone I got with my new plan had been used before, and not completely wiped clean.
I've now emptied my cache, cleared cookies and history and the same thing happens. It even happens when I go to the pit, back out through the pit and attempt to come back in.
