Avatar won’t crop

I changed avatars and the crop setting wouldn’t work. The screen was a red hue and the image screen didn’t have the editable preview. When I hit save only a small portion of the image was visible.
I turned off my iPad and tried again. Nope. I’m not good with this stuff. Is it me or is something wrong?
