    Best Oil for seasoning

Everywhere I've read suggests using vegetable oil for seasoning your smoker. I have a big jug of peanut oil, any problems with using that instead?

It seems like it might impart more taste. Veg oil is pretty bland.

I've never used oil when seasoning my cookers - just light a full chimney and let the heat burn off all the nasties.

Crisco seems to be popular. Peanut oil is expensive. Too expensive to use for seasoning a smoker. Crisco is cheap and you can find it anywhere.

When I bought my current smoker, I read in the online reviews where somebody suggested safflower oil. I went with that and a few hours of heat. Not sure if the safflower was better than any other, but it did fine. It did seem to bake on nicely.

Honestly, I never seasoned any of my cookers. I'll fire'em up hot to burn off any factory gunk and just go from there.

Same here... I've never seasoned a grill in my lifetime. Every new grill gets a no food temperature control practice session that can take a few hours or all day. After that it's time to grill or BBQ.

Just use heat and then let your subsequent cooks season your smoker.

My PBC I didn't "season" it, just fired it up w/ heat. My original PK Grill, I did though. I washed it out w/ dish soap, fully rinsed it out, let it air dry. Did a full Weber chimney full of charcoal burn in then I just sprayed some Pam Spray on the inside and that was that.

Just throw some meat on, and you'll be fine.
