    Mirliton and Gulf Shrimp Casserole

A casserole recipe, per request from the Show Us What You’re Cooking channel

didnt know if a sausage and shrimp casserole would go under seafood or under sausage in the index.

Mirilton are fist sized squash that have a celery or cucumber flavor. This dish has a Cajun heat on it, and with the bread and celery, it comes across like a spicy thanksgiving dressing. Will make again

Had me some grilled shrimp at work the other night. Never get tired of shrimp, much less a jambalaya-ish dish with sausage to boot.

we're going to try making stuffed porkchops later this week, with this casserole leftovers as the stuffing.

on paper, it sounds like it will be fantastic.

Mmmm. Fixing to be in Pensacola for a week to 10 days, and won't be able to grill (no grills allowed on the balconies, and a single shared BGE I am told). This looks like a nice dish to make in the kitchen with some fresh gulf shrimp.

Looks awesome. Since I don't speak Creole, I had to Google up mirliton, aka chayote squash. I think I've seen them in the grocery store but had no idea on what to do with them. Now I do. Thanks

I had never seen chayote squash before at the local mainstream grocery store, myself. I did find them at Sprouts, which tends to have a wider veggie selection in my area. They were in the cooler section near the cilantro/celery/cabbage -- and in this particular display, were individually wrapped in a plastic baggie for protection. Very easy to overlook
