    1st injection of Moderna Vaccine

We went today to UMass for our 1st shot. Registration was easy thanks to my daughter who got us our appointments which made it even easier. It included our 2nd shot which will be done in late March. Clearly the Massachusetts process has failed miserably. This is in partnership with the state but UMass runs the process. So far my wife has a bit of soreness in her arm where the shot was given. I took a proactive approach, drinking a large volume of wine. So far it's working. I'll update as needed.

I still can't get a vaccine here in NEPA. I'm about to turn 66, have cardiac issues and diabetes. There's just not enough doses around here. ☹️

Wow, that would have put you ahead of me in Texas. I got my second Moderna Tuesday. The only pain from the first dose was just a bit of soreness in the arm. The second shot got my complete attention. I had chills and fever last night. I was under the cover and my teeth were chattering. Today I'm feeling pretty good.

It is the 2nd shot that makes you feel sick if you're going to feel sick from it.

I wonder if will pair well with PBR.

Sounds like it’s agreeable with gin, tonic and red wine. My in-laws in NV just got their first shot yesterday. A coworker got his first shot last week and has reported tequila has had no adverse effects. Which is a relief to me in particular.

JakeT - so, a shot that may also relieve the adverse affects of tequila? More research is needed!

Plenty of people have had some ill effects from either first OR second shot, or really none at all. There is no predicting it. The 2nd shot seems to be more common in my experience for people to complain about, but it is by no means universal.

It was a challenge but I finally was able to navigate the crashed web sites, ridiculously long wait times, and disappearing availabilities, I was able to schedule my appointments.

There has to be a better way.

Baker screwed this up. They started the waiting room so you don't get kicked out of the web site. Yesterday someone was 22,000ish in line. 3 hours later here got his turn. No appointments available.

I received the ist Moderna vaccine about a month ago. I was fine until the following day. I felt I was coming down with something. I had to leave work early. Felt pretty awful until I took a Tylenol. I felt fine the next day. I will be getting my season dose on Monday. I’ll report back on any reactions. Make sure you have Tylenol on hand and be prepared to take it easy.

                • I cook on a 15-year-old Kamado #9, a huge beast nearly 6 feet tall and with black ceramic tile on the outside. I of course love smoked meats of all kinds, but also like quick cooks like chicken portions, pork tenderloins and fish. Really into cooking of all kinds. Just added an outdoor fire pit that has grilling capability and limited Santa Maria-style grill raising and lowering.

Wife got her second Moderna Wednesday. Yesterday was unpleasant for her with a slight fever. Hoping for a more normal day for her today. I get my second on Monday. We’ve set March 15 as the date when we should both be at full protection and ready to spend time with the grandbabies again.

Wife and I got our 2nd jab 10 days ago. My entire body hurt the next day but no fever/chills. Wife had same reaction. MIL and FIL got 2nd shot last week as well. They said they drank a lot of water the day before and day of 2nd shot and DID NOT have any of the day after "flu like" reactions. Maybe staying very well hydrated helps curb the reaction...

Oh, and the nurses where we got our shots told us to not take any pain killer like tylenol, advil, motrin, etc., after either shot as it interferes with the body building a tolerance to the covid virus.

There are some thoughts that using anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or aleve MIGHT reduce the effectiveness of a vaccine by reducing the inflammation caused and reducing the immune response. This is by NO means definitive or settled science. As for Tylenol, it has ZERO effect. The nurses who told you that were poorly informed.
