Gang - I am in the market for a pair of new grill gloves and am looking for a recommendation. Up until now I've been using a pair of Ove Gloves which have worked out great, except they have a cottony exterior that is difficult to clean and the gloves are getting pretty funky. This site recommends the Suede Barbeque, Grill and Fireplace Gloves. They seem like they would work but there are a number of Amazon reviews complaining they don't stand up to the heat of a hot grill very well - stories of people burning their fingers trying to pick up a cast iron pan or metal vegetable basket, etc. If so, that's a pretty bad fail for "grill gloves." Does anyone have a favorite pair they would recommend?

I use a cheap pair of welding gloves from Horrible Freight. They work great.

Good name, I needed a quick dolly and a wheel fell off on the way to the car...

Great place to buy odd tools you only need to use once. Just don't expect MAC or Snap-On quality. First (and only) time my wife came in with me she asked "what's that awful smell?" to which I replied "that is the smell of Chinese tools, dear".

We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).
I use pit mitts and Grill Armor Gloves.
Both pretty much equal, but the pit Mir goes a little higher so it is safer to use to read in. NO probs with heat penetration.Last edited by richinlbrg; July 14, 2015, 07:11 PM.

Pit Mitts fit me fine. I toss them in the washer/dryer after each cook.
I also use Ove Gloves, in a pinch, but they're harder to dry because they're supposed to be washed and not tossed in the dryer, as I recall. AT least I never toss them in the dryer. I have both flavors of Ove Gloves the regular ones and the ones for blocking steam burns. Like Mark mgaretz says, they have to be turned inside out to get thoroughly dry. I like them for kitchen work but not so much for backyard grilling needs.
And of course for grabbing the searingly hot stuff, my super duper welder's gloves are amazing. They've got the burn marks on the paws to show how hard they've worked!

Traeger Jr Elite, Modern Home Products TJK gasser,Char-Broil 26" Round Charcoal Grill CBRMH-2600/S, Weber Smokey Joe, small portable POS charcoal grill, 13.25" GrillGrates, Thermopen, Maverick ET-732, Etekcity Lasergrip 1080 Non-contact Digital Laser Infrared Thermometer
gorilla gloves, bear paws
i saw this in one of the questions for this product...
Q: are they suitable for pulling pork or chicken?
A: Suitable for getting the pork or chicken off of the grill, also suitable for "pulling" if you are using bear claws. I would not recommend pulling with just these gloves as they will absorb too much of the grease.

I've been thinking again, John ( always worrisome). Since it seems you have larger hands than I, where to you by winter gloves. I can't find any that fit me.
Or are you in a warm climate where winter floves are not needed?

Anything with cloth can be dangerous. If they get wet or damp and you pick up something hot, the water will turn to steam. I have a pair of Pit Mitts that got pretty hot in that very manner. I still use them, but only for the fire part. For food I picked up a set of those orange bumpy food grade silicone they sell on Amazon. More than enough protection to remove a pork butt or brisket from the smoker. They're also going to get used for turkey. Dishwasher cleaning is nice too.
I have a pair of actual mitts with the long arm, like gauntlet. No fingers is a pain.
