These monsters want to set my fireboard to 100 F in the middle of the stall, don’t they?

Yep, in the middle of the night.

My biggest danger to myself is not that I think about the worst that could happen, it's the fact I have no clue what's the worst that WILL happen.

So far, data inconclusive, but I'm all kinda googlin to see how this could potentially affect my ~1960 Corningware percolator, or my 1940's Oster blender...

If my coffee maker suddenly decides to make me pumpkin spice lattes, then we're gonna have a problem. Otherwise, my dumb coffee maker and I are good.

I simplified the situation, I just don't drink coffee

Back when they first came up with the "smart kitchen" concept years before it was close to being an actuality, I had nightmares of having to reboot my kitchen before I could make coffee in the morning. For that reason I tend to keep it as dumb as possible.

But the big thing is make sure your home network has a firewall and which gets updated regularly (like putting up a fence and checking it regularly to make sure there are no holes) and then assume that any "smart" device was made by people who do dumb things without thinking about it (like the rest of us) and then lock them down as much as possible.

My bong is wireless and, although it has caused hacking, it has never been hacked...
