12 Great Moments in Grill History

Not sure how accurate this is, but interesting nonetheless. A few good chuckles within.

I found this one surprising. If you're from SE Michigan like me or know any history of the era, odds are you're already aware that Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and Harvey Firestone were buds and hung out together. I had no idea that Mr. Kingsford was in that bunch.

In 1919, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone and Edward Kingsford took a road trip to Michigan to buy a forest. Ford’s wood-paneled cars gobbled up timber, generating tons of waste, so he built a factory town to turn that waste wood into charcoal briquettes. To generate demand for this new output, Ford marketed portable grills and charcoal as “Picnic Kits,” an official accessory for the Model T.
    Happy Memorial Day!

What really strikes me in the WSJ article is the creativity in creating demand for what was waste!
