I didn’t catch that this was from 2013. Apologies!

Still don't understand how that sale was allowed to go through.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-c...-idUSKBN1XF0XC. I remember seeing the Chinese had some pig problem last year and had to kill millions of them https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ch...ink-2019-11-11

Am I right in thinking that what goes to China stays in China with respect to Smithfield hogs? I certainly hope so.

Even worse, IMHO, is that they bought The Peanut Shop of Williamsburg.😕 That is our goto place for customer and client gifts at the holidays. That, and they shutdown the smoke houses in Smithfield.

They slaughter in Smithfield and send to meat to China.

Yes, you are correct for general pork products. I was referring to Smithfield Hams. By VA law the hog must be cured and smoked within the town limits of Smithfield. When they tore down the smokehouses within town limits the hams the Smithfield company produces can no longer be called “Smithfield Hams” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smithfield_ham A sad end to a long tradition.

When I saw the title to this thread I thought another company was buying it in China.
