    Shipping care packages overseas

So I'm deployed to Afghanistan and was wondering I wonder if there is any bbq for the troops care packages. We don't really have access to anything but mustard ketchup salt and pepper. I was wondering this because we just got a grill here and they turned out some chicken that was okay. I think I could do better.

To bad I can't fly in meathead. I believe that'd all be done through the USO anyway lol.

So I decided to just say go for it. I'm not asking anyone to go overboard but if you want to send some of your troops some spices or whatever I'll include my name and email. The care packages you can get at your post office and I believe it's free postage. I'll post some pictures and put em up next bbq. The defac here is terrible and I work in a joint compound (all services) so a bottle of paprika (or any other spice) would go a long way. Only packing suggestion would be tape the tops so they don't bust open. Also include your name so I can send a thank you! I'm here till late November but my unit could use it after I'm gone anyway.

WOW, have you ever come to the right place!! SO glad I saw this!

Huskee, Pit Boss, Meathead, PLEASE do what ever you can to get this widely dispersed. When our servicemembers call, we WILL be here for them!

I have a LOT of experience sending care packages to Afghanistan, and I am happy to take the lead for anything that needs to be done.

frijolefrito where did you come across this?

I also do volunteer work for an organization that sends care packages to our deployed. I will add this addy to their ship list.

It would be helpful to know what they want to spice up and some suggestions for flavoringsthey would like. Also, what other needs might they have?

For those who will send packages, no pork, porn or alcohol is permitted.

I'm all in on this project. I'm going to the store to buy a big assortment of spices today. I'll mix up a big batch of Memphis Dust too. It's an honor to help those that volunteer to defend our freedom.

I'm in Australia and as your allies us Aussies really appreciate what you're doing to combat the evil. Our LEA's just prevented two "terrorist" attacks here recently - one on Anzac day 25th of April (thanks to our UK allies) - attacks aimed at our police officers and another one just recently - Mother's day today 10th of May - they were going to set of bombs in places... They are now in prison where they belong. They are not the first ones.Just because we are on a big 'island' doesn't mean we are safe. This evil needs to be defeated so we can all live safe an peaceful lives.I give a big THANK YOU to You Sir and to all the other hero's fighting this evil...God Bless All Of You....

Huskee I think we should change the name of this thread so more people pick up on it. Reason being, I think they will be much more likely to pop-in and read the thread if they knew it was to help our finest. Thus, generating more goodies for our guys/gals over seas. Just a thought. @pitboss

              Ohhhh, wow, frijolfrito!

I did not realize that it was you!

              Thank you.

Tell us what you would like. I gather you have refrigeration?

BTW, you may have bitten of more than you can chew, so to speak (pun intended).

In addition to spices, what else can you use? I don't know even generally where you are, and weather conditions vary widely.

For those shipping, he gave us the addy. Use PO flat rate boxes, pack it tightly so things don't rattle. The PO will give you a plastic pouch to put Form 2976-A (USOS Customs Declaration. And Dispatch Note).

Keep your descriptions vague and values low - don't want anyone getting too interested. If you are looking for packing stuff to reduce rattling, try putting other stuff (like single package coffe or crystal lite) in a baggy.

I just did some research and here in Australia we can also send care packages to our heroes. But our packages are distributed by our defence force and i'm not sure i can target a specific person - i will do more research but my question is what should i send? I don't wanna send useless stuff but i want to contribute. I can send up to 2kg's or 4.4pounds.My packages may not reach You - may reach others but i want to contribute...Maybe my mates would like vegemite? I'd like to know.....I'll have to check back later it's 5:30 am and i need to go to sleep...

So you can just send me the vegamite. I spoke with the actual base Australian commander and he said send it to me and I'll drop it off.

So if I'm sending a package from my home I'd put my City, State, and zip at the bottom of the addy like below???

Sorry, Dr ROK I just noticed one thing. You have it correct until your last line. The APO, AE 09356 is his city, State and zip. After the APO, AE you don't put anything.

                Yes, on the customs form,
                Last name. First name. MI
Then the addy as you have it

And a cautionary note to all.

We are in a screwed up world, and Ssgt may be in one of the more screwed up parts. This is an open forum, and who knows who is reading it (think Garland, TX, for just one example). There are a LOT of people who would like nothing better than harm one of our servicemembers! Anything you send should be in secured packaging so the recipients know they can trust it. Instead of sending one of our favorite rubs, send the ingredients in their original sealed packages and the recipe.

We want to do everything we can for our servicemembers, which must include their security and safety.

that address I gave is how you ship it. The parentheses was explaing what it was. I don't see a problem with a mixed batch of stuff. If You feel paranoid just message ur name and put a tape on the sealed area. The post office still checks it all anyway but sealed packaging is safer. We get homemade cookies sent in cellophane wrapped bags we'll be okay.

                    So it's:
Like I wrote without the (city, state zip)

You should put your return address but richinlbrg has covered the posting questions well.

I maybe did bite of more than I can chew lol
Just bbq stuff was all I was really asking for and not wanting anyone to put them selves out.

I'll figure out how u get it to the Aussies I'll just ask them and have them email u pm me your email.

                    Thanks all for the enthusiasm.

I have refrigeration but wouldn't suggest sending something cold for one customs and for two I don't want lots of money spent.
