    This is not funny

Reading a piece in Julys Consumer Reports on ticks and the growing epidemic. Now theres a tick, Lone Star Tick. It is mainly from the southeast, but is now been located as far north as Maine. If bitten, you can develop an allergic reaction to red meat! Symptoms are similar to a bee sting, anaphylaxis. Severe swelling and possible closure of wind pipe. Not good and no cure. Just don't eat red meat or carry EpiPen. There are more than 5000 people confirmed with this.

A very informative article and a bit alarming in general.

Alpha-gal is very real and no fun for those that have to deal with it. One of my co-worker's brother just recently got diagnosed with it after months of not knowing what was going on. He would eat a meal and hours later have symptoms similar to someone who is allergic to shellfish, just not as severe. He would break out in a rash, itchy throat, sweats and often faint spells. It was baffling to them because it was a delayed response. But fortunately they had a doctor that asked the right questions and no more meat for him. He did pluck ticks off this past turkey season in Tennessee.

I think it may be a conspiracy by Popeye’s/KFC/Chick Filet. They signed a pact, then hired a genetics firm & then you have this. I know, cuz a guy told me.

to pre-empt the questions...im a certified pistol and rifle instructor and range safety officer. My dad and I run a firearms training company in our spare time. Thankfully the incident in question was a ricochet with a hollow point so it flattened out long before it hit me. Less thankfully it was a .45 so it still packed enough of a punch to knock me on my butt and leave a helluva bruise.

Ticks are bad in this area this year, about 15 mins west of me its really bad.
Every time I take our dawg for a walk I have to give her a pat down when we get home.
We have found three stuck in her fur so far but no where near her skin.
Since she's a Husky Vet says her thick fur keeps them away from her skin.
Still gets a tick pill once a month.
Me? My wife would love to see me lose weight so bring on the ticks.

The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.
