    Vacuum sealer

I've been thinking about getting a vacuum sealer for quite some time. With the ever increasing cost of meat I think now is the time to get one. Any recommendations? Any to avoid? Where is everyone getting their bags? Thanks for the help

I have this vacuum sealer. The bags can get pretty expensive so I just ordered these, they are a lot cheaper and at least according to the reviews should work well.

I have a Food Saver. About $50 from HEB (local grocer). There are 2 widths of bag rolls. You custom cut a bag. There are other accessories too, but I use it for primarily vacuum bagging food. Refill bag rolls are cheaper on Amazon.

I use a Food Saver as well. It's been good for me. Use their roll bags also.

I have a Food Saver too. I started out with a cheap model but it didn't last. Upgraded about 6 years ago to the higher end stainless one (horizontal design, appears to be out of production and replaced by the new vertical design) and it has worked great. I had to replace the seals once, but that's it. Bags aren't that expensive if you watch the sales at Costco, who also sells the units.

I think the recent issue issue of "Cook's Country" (from the Cook's Illustrated folks) has a review of vacuum sealers. It was worth the read as I'm new to sealers and have been thinking about getting one myself.

A vacuum sealer is so worth every penny. I've worked my Foodsaver hard for years. Just buy bag rolls at Walmart when I get low.

Same here - we got a Foodsaver from my folks about 10 years ago, great for buying meat at Costco/Sams/BJs. It's been used hard and is still going strong.

We have a food saver as well. Extra bags are at Walmart. Between wild game meat and buying pork and beef in bulk at Costco like jholmgren it is worth it's weight in gold. I've package literally tons of meat with the same food saver and it is still running like a caddy.

Awesome! Thanks for the info. I'll have to check Sam's and see if they sell Food Savers.

They do. Same price as Costco.

I have a Food Saver brand, a buddy of mine has a knock off model that does not seal very well. I did some price checking and found one on Amazon cheaper than Walmart, even had free shipping.

I've been doing a little searching and wow! So many different models of Food Savers. Also I noticed a bunch of mixed reviews. Some are very basic and some fully automatic. I guess I have some more researching to do.
