    • We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).

    Consumer Reports last month had a very scary article on ticks as well, and listed the many diseases they can carry. Scared the peewaddin' out of me. Lots of deer and ticks in my neck of the woods, so we're always vigilant.

      There have been over a thousand cases in central VA where I live... And there are a lot of deer passing through our property, and a lot of ticks on our property.

      There is a bit of hope though. Impossible Burger is said to really taste like beef. I hope I never have to find out...

        Just going off the picture menu I ordered an Impossible Burger. It looked like a single patty burger when everything else had a lot of stuff I didn't need. I did not no it was anything other than beef when I ate it. I only found out about it the next time I went with the gang to the same place and they said I couldn't order one. I thought it was odd since I could order any other burger until I paid for it and they handed me a piece of paper explaining they had not received a shipment.

      about 7 years ago, my wife caught Lyme disease from a deer tick. Was a pretty rough week. Thank goodness the ER was able to diagnose it early for proper treatment.

        No joke man. Ive known someone who had lyme undiagnosed for a long time and it completely wrecked their life.

      Even if we avoid getting bitten by the lone star tick we may find that this new invasive species of tick may cause enough havoc among livestock producers that all we can afford is Impossible Burgers.

      I've had Impossible Burgers, and while kinda tasty, I'm not ready to give up the real thing completely.

        Winter’s comin, that’ll solve it.
        Had one attach itself to the bottom of my second toe in the underneath knuckle area a couple months back. Didn’t know he was there till I took my boot off about 9 hours later. “What the heck is this blobby thing that won’t seem to come off on the bottom of my toe” I says. Yup, it was, and it had growed. Plucked that critter off eventually, toe turned blue after a day or two & stayed that way for about a month. The pock mark/scab slowly fell off & the color came back to normal & I still have my toe. No worse for wear, but I have this slight twitch when I smile & have picked up an accent. 🕶

        Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever cost me almost a year of my life not to mention my kidneys. We distribute Tick tubes all around our property and it does help.

        You hear about Lyme disease that is passed by ticks, Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain to name a few.
        I cost them both years off of they're careers.
        Gotta watch our Husky, loves to get into the tall grass nosing around on walks, we've found a few on her.
        Luckily her fur seems to be so thick they can't get down to her skin....we hope.

          More likely, her fur is so thick it's hard to get through it to check her skin. My dogs get a shot that kills any ticks that bite them. I don't know if you have that in Canada.

        My sister in-law contracted this disease a few years ago, now she can't eat red meat. I remember thinking "what a terrible way to have to live."

          Anybody that spends a lot of time outdoors needs to think about tick countermeasures. DEET applied liberally, Permethrin on your clothes, shower and inspect yourself when you come in, long sleeves and pants tucked in to your boots if possible. And if you see anything suspicious on your body, get to your doctor quick. I've found a few suspicious bites, one positive screen for Lyme, but never had a problem as I was put on antibiotics quickly. My doctor when I lived in northern Wisconsin treated a lot of loggers, and he just put them on antibiotics all summer because they were constantly coming in anyway. When I went in, he just treated me and didn't bother testing, said by the time the test came back, you'd be through a substantial part of the course of antibiotics anyway.
