    David Gilmour auction.

If anyone has some extra cash around. His 120+ guitar collection is being auctioned on June 20th. There's a few I'd like, but a little shy on the price. https://www.christies.com/features/D...on-9637-3.aspx

If I played and had the dough I would be all over this one. But I don’t. Either one. 😁😬
That being said. David Gilmour is absolutely one of the best guitarist to ever have played one.

That is really something. I'm thinking the "Black Strat" will probably go for more than the estimate - in my view it should. Hey everybody check out Locotech link and the embedded video.

If you want his signature Strat sound, any quality Strat will do(mine works fine). What gets his sound is amp settings and effect settings. Plus, his personal technique. This is true for most musicians. If you give Jimmy Page a 335, strat, tele, or whatever, it will sound like him. Any good instrumentalist is like that.

          Pretty much...
Get yerself a Strat...stuff a Duncan SSL-5 into the bridge and you're almost there.
Add a second pickup switch so that the neck pickup can be activated in all selection modes and you're even closer. ;-)
Run that through a Big Muff into a Hiwatt 100 and you're getting even closer. Toss in a lush phaser, some delay, maybe a chorus & compressor, and a bit of overdrive...oh yeah! ;-)

Even then, HIS technique will shine through...and be different from yours or mine.

I just bought new'98 ish Strat, added some Jimmy Vaughn Tex-Mex pickups, and an LSR roller nut. Plus I installed larger frets. With any quality tube amp, the rest is just effects.

That is very cool. Thank you Locotech. I am a huge fan of the strat's and the DG!! To be able to own one of his guitars would be amazing, but not at those prices. Guess I will add this to the list of things I won't own!!

I'm sure they're fine instruments, but so are any if you shop around, even brand new. To me, it'd be like paying a premium price for a grill or a lighter that a famous person used. A guitar is just a tool. It's still the device it is and will soudn different in my hands or yours. But I suppose that's what collector's items are, stuff that costs more than it should because of rarity & bragging rights & sentimentality not because of functionality. I'm a fan of DG & PF, but he's just a man and they're just guitars.

I once bid on a set of Moog Taurus II bass pedals that was being sold by Genesis. I think Mike Rutherford must have tried it and not liked it as well as the original Taurus. Anyway, I bid what I thought was a fair price and even got a little too into the auction and bid well over what I considered reasonable. The winning bid was 4x my original bid. It's kind of insane and for a little bit I went insane too.

Contact Gilmour, he's in need of a guitar soon and will be flush.

Nice! I like hardtail Strats, but other than Robert Cray signature models, Fender doesn't make them and I don't like the colors available. I'm working on a hardtail Frankenguitar made with an MIJ Squier neck I got cheap on Reverb (had to have been barely used because the frets weren't worn at all) and a Guitar Fetish body. When I retire and have more time I plan on expanding my shop to make my own guitars.
