Asking for VOIP phone system advise

I will be changing my 6 phone 4 line small business analog phone system to VOIP, I have adequate fast internet in place. I will be installing and maintaining a new system myself on premises. I think a SIP trunk service provider will be cheaper than the charges for the analog lines now in use. I do not know which provider(s) may work best. Wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience they could share. Thanks in advance.

If stick to copper pair for as long as possible. The problem with VOIP is the IP part. After hurricane Irma I lost power, and once my fiber to Ethernet thingie ran out of battery power no more internet. And before that happened my home lost power do no internet modrm
      and no Wi-Fi.

In 1992 Miami experienced a cat 5 monster. My parents home NEVER lost copper pair phone service. Internet didn’t exist but cable TV was gone for a month. Electricity was gone for 3 weeks. But phone service was reliable. Until the phone company cut the phone cable that was laying on the ground. I helped a neighbor prop it up so it was high enough off the road so cars could pass umder it.

Note: as long as you can. Phone companies are trying to phase out copper.

2 things about VOIP. No matter how robust your ISP is, you'll drop packets and have occasionally choppy voice comms. Also, if your network goes, so does your phone. However, the cost savings will be enormous. I'm switching my office over to VOIP but keeping a few analog lines around for resiliency.

In the schools we build the only line they use for phones is for elevator and it’s more of a backup in case Spectrum can’t get complete in time. They don’t use copper they use fiber optic cable now. They call these lines POTS lines. Funny it stands for plain old telephone service.
We still have phone for my 90 year old mother in law that lives with us. I am glad to here that this is good to keep around. I never thought about a prolonged power outage. It not easy to add phone service in residential any more and quite expensive.

Interesting thread for sure. I am a prepper and cannot help it. Communications in a down situation is a concern. But for me to shell out $30 a month for a landline does not make sense and to have just in case. At least that is the price that I have found online. But I know all of this response is taking the thread out of the direction that SMOG MAN needed. So, in my experience DialPad https://www.dialpad.com/ is a great service that I have used successfully in the past. It works well, there is no contract and it is affordable.

My only advice is from the 911 provider perspective. Make sure that your provider has correctly set up your 911 info. The info that is sent to 911 called ANI/ALI (think souped up caller ID) is data that is associated with your phone number if you have a land line. If you have VOIP, it's associated with your account. If you move (even to another city or state) when you call 911 with that account, it will send the info associated with your account to 911, rather than your physical address.

            the good one grill
The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.
