    Security camera recommendations?

Yesterday was one of those days where something probably minor in the grand scheme of things happened, but the fact that it did happen was just terribly unsettling...

We've lived in the home we're in for almost 20 years now, and haven't had any issues in the neighborhood at all. While not Mayberry from a rural perspective, it has definitely felt safe and there wasn't risk that your stuff is going to be ripped off like in some other urban areas I've lived in. I guess we were in a mental bubble, but since we've never had issues with theft or even heard of neighbors having problems, we've never thought twice about having packages delivered and left at the front door. My wife told me yesterday evening that we can't do that anymore, since two packages were delivered yesterday and were swiped from the front door by a kid.

The only reason we knew that it happened was that the kid opened the packages and was evidently disappointed to find a doughnut seat cushion (which he dropped in the yard next to ours) and some probiotics for one of our pets. He then knocked on the door of a neighbor behind us and offered to sell the lady there the probiotics, calling it some "medicine." She declined, and her husband went out to look and see what the heck the kid was doing - the kid had run away, but left the torn packaging in their front yard, which had our address on it. He brought it to our house and told my wife what happened. (Amazon, btw, was very kind and offered an immediate refund, even though my wife told them it was theft and wasn't their fault.)

So now we cannot trust packages to be dropped off, which is very frustrating, and in some cases like with the mail order medications I have to take (90 day supply shipments that my insurance mandates for ongoing medications) is unavoidable. So now I'm starting to search for home security video cameras.

A quick search yielded Nest as the best, but they're definitely proud of their solution. If that's the way to go, I'll do it, but want to be informed as possible. If y'all have any experience with security cameras for the home, I'd love to hear your experiences and recommendations.

    Thanks in advance!

Another solution is to get a nice looking box or fake planter to put next to the door. Most retailers have an extra address line available. Use that line to say something like "Put packages in box".

You may want to have those packages delivered to you at work, if that is an option.

I bought a set of 5 Arlo (Netgear) wireless cameras to cover every outside door and the driveway. It doesn't call the police or activate an alarm, but it is motion activated and notifies me when motion is detected. I can then pull up the app and see a video of what triggered the alert. At any time I can go online and watch live video from any or all of the cameras. If you just want to be able to keep an eye on things, this does a good job for less than $400 and no monthly charges.

I have a Ring doorbell and I really like it. Costco is running a sale on the Ring security system as well at the moment. I believe its $200 for a 10 piece set. I don't have the security system yet, but the doorbell is really nice to know when the packages arrive!

I also have a Ring doorbell. I like it. But beware if you to want to retain the video it is a subscription. If you only have 1 then it's $30/yr. If say you add a video spotlight for the driveway they bump it tp $100/yr. it includes monitoring. If interested you can go to http://ring.com to see if it's what your looking for.

Hello from Toronto, Ontario! I will 2nd the post above for Netgear products.

I went with an Arlo Pro 2 suite of cameras & base station about a year ago and could not be happier. The primary reason was they are motion activated, and includes free cloud service (think it's a week - and if you want more, premium subscriptions are offered).

The battery life on my cameras is much better than I expected, based on the reviews. I purchased and installed mine mid-October last year and they are all sitting around 85% battery life.

I have several cameras. Bought them after I was robbed several years ago. As much as I love living in NYC, these are the hazards.

Even with the cameras, people are smart enough to steal packages if they want to. If the camera is placed high, they can wear a hat. If the camera is placed low, they could simply lift up the collar of their shirt to cover their face.

Best advice -- ship anything valuable to work unless it is too heavy to carry.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

            the good one grill

The Good-One Open Range is a charcoal grill with an offset smoke chamber attached. It is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. The grill sits low in front and doubles as a firebox for the smoke chamber which is spliced on above and behind so it can work like a horizontal offset smoker only better. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.

Plus it has a built in cutting board, garbage bag holder, and paper towel holder. An additional work table on the left side provides plenty of counter space.

            Professional Steakhouse Knife Set

            masterbuilt gas smoker

So he located the manufacturer and had them stamp our name on some. They boast pointed, temper-ground, serrated, high-carbon stainless-steel, half-tang blades with excellent cutting edge ability. The beefy hardwood handle provides a comfortable grip secured by three hefty rivets. He has machine washed his more than 100 times. They have never rusted and they stay shiny without polishing.
