Pretty simple, really ... a couple of Omaha Steaks fillets (a Christmas gift ... sous vide and torched), potatoes au gratin, roasted Brussels sprouts, shrimp cocktail (also a sous vide science experiment), and wine ... plenty of wine ...

The wife and I don't celebrate nor even recognize the most commercial of days. We will probably eat leftovers in front of the TV tonight.

Same here. We haven't "celebrated" in years. 45 years it does not need to be called out on any given day. Food: my wifes meat sauce, pasta and a glass or three of a nice chianti.

Restaurants here impossible to get into. For the last 10 years, I cook instead. Tonight's menu is:

Salmon on a plank (her favorite)
        grilled Brussels sprouts
        4 cheese mashed potatoes
        French bread
        Bottle of Pino Grigio

Well to start out with I have the lucky circumstance of my wife having Valentine's Day AND her birthday just one day apart, oh lucky me !!! Why you say, can't you just double up with one big present...oh no...may it never be. There must be two, that's right, two celebrations separate but equal.

Now, having said that I am really buying forward my points this year. You see I want a new vertical smoker come spring/early summer SO I'm gifting her a Gucci wallet (halfway there) for Valentine's day, then some jewelry and her favorite dinner, an SRF Wagyu Picanha both for her B'day (about another third of the way there).

So I'm now WAY ahead in points. She's dancing around like a little school girl and ole Troutman is snickering like a Cheshire cat. Ahh the games we play

Went to a place called La Cabriole. French bistro type place - a small house at the end of a road outside of town. 7 course meal, a lentil soup, mushroom duxelles in puff pastry, duck breast with veggies and roasted potatoes, bitter salad greens with a vinaigrette, assorted cheese plate (the goat cheese was out of this world good), chocolate tart with raspberry and some most excellent coffee (I guess the coffee was the 7th course). Took our own wine. Better half was blown away. So was I as a matter of fact.

I kind of fell into that - I have lived here for 25 years and had never heard of the place. Ran across it by accident, but it worked.

I did a variation of surf and turf for lunch. Prime fillet, grilled asparagus, garlic mashed potatoes, and shrimp and crab stuffed grilled avocado with remolaude sauce. Then for dinner she requested chicken and waffles, so I obliged. Sorry, no pics, so it probably didn't happen. As for gifts, I took her to sweet gourmet and let her pick out her custom box of chocolates. Then she and my mother (who got a box of chocolates as well that my wife picked out) unwrapped their Valentine's Day gifts (mom came to visit); each got a fur coat. Arctic fox for my wife, and rabbit for my mother. Can't wait for March 14th... Wink wink

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

                    the good one grill
The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.

Griddle And Deep Fryer In One

                    Pit Barrel Cooker Smoker
The flat top does the burgers and the fryer does the fries. Use the griddle for bacon, eggs, and home fries. Or pancakes, fajitas, grilled cheese, you name it. Why stink up the house deep frying and spatter all over? Do your fried chicken and calamari outside. Blackstone's Rangetop Combo With Deep Fryer does it all!

The Pit Barrel Cooker May Be Too Easy

                    Pit Barrel Cooker Smoker
The PBC has a rabid cult following for good reason. It is absolutely positively without a doubt the best bargain on a smoker in the world. Period. This baby will cook circles around the cheap offset sideways barrel smokers because temperature control is so much easier.

Grilla Pellet Smoker proves good things come in small packages

                    Grilla pellet smoker
We always liked Grilla. The small 31.5" x 29.5" footprint makes it ideal for use where BBQ space is limited, as on a condo patio.

The PK-360, with 360 square inches of cooking space, this rust free, cast aluminum charcoal grill is durable and easy to use. Four-way venting means it's easy to set up for two zone cooking with more control than single vent Kamado grills. The amazing Karubecue is the most innovative smoker in the world. The quality of meat from this machine is astonishing. At its crux is a patented firebox that burns logs above the cooking chamber and sucks heat and extremely clean blue smoke into the thermostat controlled oven. It is our favorite smoker, period.

Masterbuilt MPS 340/G ThermoTemp XL Propane Smoker

                    masterbuilt gas smoker
This is the first propane smoker with a thermostat, making this baby foolproof. Set ThermoTemp's dial from 175? to 350?F and the thermostat inside will adjust the burner just like an indoor kitchen oven. All you need to do is add wood to the tray above the burner to start smokin'.
