I love cooking with wine. Sometimes I put it in my food.

One cannot have too many grills.

Glad to be here!!! More Than Ever !!

So as many of you know, I had back surgery in mid November. Recovery was going extremely well until a fairly major setback. Early last week I just felt funny...no pain or obvious symptoms....Just funny and not quite right....Weird enough to drive myself to the Emergency room.

Luckily I had a VERY Smart ER doctor who asked me some what seemed to be some very strange questions. By doing so, he was able to connect the dots, order the right treatment and save my life.

As it turns out somehow, some way there was a blood clot or clots floating around in my body and it made to my heart causing it to go crazy and also made my blood pressure spike in all directions. The clot or clots eventually made it to my brain causing a series of TIA's (Mini Strokes)....The last one being a small actual stroke. Luckily I came in soon enough and they were able to treat. So at this point I was definitely admitted to the hospital.

While in the Hospital, they got my BP under control and did a series of tests. The last test being a Trans Esophageal Echocardiogram. Basically Ultra sound pictures of my heart from the esophagus. They discovered a hole in my heart that has been there since birth that was the likely avenue for the clots to do their damage.

So I am wearing a heart monitor for 30 days to rule out random Atrial Fibrillation. If that is ruled out, they will plug the the hole in my heart with two small umbrella type devices thus preventing future clots making it to my brain.

So....All of that being said, I will be cooking and eating in a much more heart healthy manor...

Not to Worry....I will be posting Heart Healthier meals totally relevant to BBQ and Amazingribs.com.

    It's Great to Be Alive!!

    Grill on!!

Hey, glad to hear things are working out. Been thru a share of spine & heart surgeries over the last few years, so do what you’re supposed to do & everything will be just fine. Grillin & smokin of meat & veggies are healthy, even bacon. There’s a lot of gobbledygook info on healthy this & heathy that, do your research! What I have found is that the medical community knows very little or is misinformed on what is healthy. So is dietary experts associated with said community. Some work is involved, but it’s worth it.

This is great to hear, and thanks for sharing!

My dad wasn't so lucky about 30 years ago. At age 45, he passed suddenly from a similar condition before the ER doctors were able to diagnose it.

I sure do, fzxdoc. And not to make this thread about me, but I don't know anyone who has been as happy to turn 46 as I was.

Wow, major dodge of a bullet Troy. Good for you to have the sense to get checked out, many ignore those signs until it becomes a very life threatening problem. And God bless ER staffs.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

                        the good one grill
The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.
