    What have I done???

I had a rack of baby backs in the fridge for dinner last night. I didn't have a lot of time so I decided to try a new method. I was going to cook them in the Instant Pot and then finish them off in the oven after being sauced. Well, my 8-year-old son, who absolutely loves ribs, found out that I was not going to smoke them. He started throwing a fit because of this. At first, I thought he was just playing around. Then I saw the tears rolling down his cheek. He was literally crying because I wasn't going to be smoking the ribs. I think I may have created a smoked meat monster!

Check out the "Blasphemy Ribs" thread. 2 1/2 hours cook time ... and smoked to boot.

And give your young man a big hug for being a chip off the old block.

I will definitely try out Blasphemy Ribs at some point. I wouldn't have had enough time for these either last night. I had the ribs done after 20 minutes in the Instant Pot.

My late dog Dessie was on a “human food” diet in her last months because she stopped eating dog food. My wife tried cooking meat and boiling chicken for her. She refused to eat that, too. Smoked meat and chicken was all she would go for and she did so with a big wagging tail.

My 39-year old son posted an IP rib cook from a couple of days ago. He said it was good (I'm dubious). The recipe (HERE) incorporates a bit of instant smoke (as wisely suggested by Potkettleblack ) which must have helped at least a bit. Still dubious though ...

I'll wait and give it a try (in the IP we received from son and DIL for Xmas) one of those fine Colorado days when the rain/hail/snow (or all 3 during an 8 hour period) is falling sideways. I'll post pics if it works ... or sheepishly sweep the whole thing under the carpet if it doesn't.

I’m not opposed. I used some ribs in my ragu, so it’s not like I’m against. Of course, i smoked them before putting them in the braise pot.

Potkettleblack One of my favorite dishes from childhood was ragu with spareribs. There's just something about the rendered fat etc mixed in with some long, thin spaghetti. Don't do it often around here, but it's a treat.

And I like the pre-smoking idea!

I also smoked some short ribs and some sausage that went in. An hour or so at 180 on the Grilla, and then into the pot. I think I did it outside the Breville Fast/Slow and in my dutch oven. But, if it would have fit, it would've worked nicely.
