    Are you paying less for cheese and milk?

    I thought this was interesting considering I like cheese, sometimes on my burger, all the time on my mac & cheese.

    I’m in a different position than most, living in the heart of dairy. I get all my cheese as close to the source as I can, which is not at the stupor market. No kids around so we don’t consume much milk. But, I see & hear of the travails of the dairy farmer constantly.

      I live in Amish country, with Amish-run grocery stores spread throughout the local countryside (no lights, only skylights in the buildings, it's cool) and their cheese is da bomb. Kraft doesn't hold a candle to it. How it was all meant to taste and will again one day....

      Huskee I have a Mennonite farm store down the road from my cabin I like to shop at when I'm there. However, they use technology and don't make cheese.

    I cook with a lot of cheese. Love it. There is a cheese producer about a 1/2 drive from me that is worth a visit as it is definitely cheaper than the supermarket. I still by most at the supermarket though as the smaller portions work for me.

      The dairy market is pretty volatile right now. Lots of milk and cheese out there...........these tariffs are making things interesting.

        I have been paying $1.99 per gallon for milk over the past several months now, down from over $3.00 before that. Not sure about cheese.

          Interesting. My wife says we are paying between 3 and 4 dollars a gallon.

        Despite my avatar, I do still live in California where if a commodity goes down in price the state slaps a fee or subsidy or surcharge or tax or whatever to skim our savings. Funny, they never repeal any of those when the price of a commodity goes up. And I don't mean "funny, haha".

          I have a lot of family in CA, I was raised there... but don't claim it and won't move back. Such a shame, because IMO it's probably the most beautiful State with everything nature has to offer. Colorado was gonna be my retirement choice for residence, but it got too expensive... they have everything I like about CA except no ocean, but they do have a ton of lakes... As much as I despise it, money talks and I'll likely end my days on the East Coast.

            Haven't noticed a change in the cheese my wife buys (grocery store brand) and haven't been noticing in the cheese I buy (from the fancy counter by the deli). But it's hard out there for a dairyman. Looking forward to warmer days when the farmer's market restarts downtown and I can renew my relationship with the cheese guy and the mushroom folks.

              Milk is cheap by me, can't quote you an exact price, but it is way down from what it was a few years ago. The one cheese I've really noticed a difference in is bleu, seems like there's a lot of moderately priced bleu available, and a lot of restaurants that never did in the past are now offering crumbled bleu as an option, even a tavern near me that only serves full-fledged dinners a few days per week.
