I finally head out to hunt after weeks of working. Worked until 0310 hrs Monday morning, 1700-2015 hrs Monday evening. Tuesday morning aka TODAY I headed out on 3 hours sleep.
First time out with my new, never shot Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm 4.25" barrel w/ Truglo fiber optics. Haven't had time to sight it in, no problem, I never wanted something to come try and eat me in the dark so much in my life. BTW- pistol is Flat Dark Earth on 99% of the gun, you know, the color that matches all the freaking leaves in the woods.
After an uneventful hunt in the stand I decide to scout a thicket where a buck came out weeks ago. My custom holster for this pistol that will accomodate the gun light will be a bit longer, so I'm using it sans light in an Uncle Mikes holster. I ordered closed loops for the holster on the way, the one today was just a clip. (important bit of information right there)
I'm headed from OakRidge (GPS names) to Ladder- 0.18 miles. Within 60 yards of Ladder I realize my pistol is no longer on my side.

I was carrying it on the right-front, however, to accomodate my fanny pack with food and drink, I moved it to my right side. Bad Move. Not to mention I just zigzagged through a tangled mess of briars and more briars. I figure the black color of the holster is gonna have to save me.
I panic and quickly hit the GPS to go back to OakRidge to backtrack but instead hit OakFlat which is 0.25 miles away.
I'm in thicker crap now, it's cloudy so no sun for direction, didn't check the right pockets for my compass, and when I get to OakFlat and realize my mistake I be

.
So now I backtrack alllllllllll the way back to OakRidge and then come back to Ladder and no sign. I'm about to give up cause now it's 0.20 miles to get back to OakRidge when I remembered my orange tape. Did I mention I'm toting a 10+ pound rifle through all this crap?????
Back to OakRidge with orange tape to mark my trail. I figure by the time I use the 200 yards left on this roll I should have a found pistol, or at the very least Jimmy Hoffa (if he has a black suit on).
About, NO, exactly 331 ft from Ladder and 7 markings of tape, there lay my pistol in holster in plain sight. I figure it was about 60-70 yards back and would have been a fairly quick find had I hit the GPS to go to OakRidge instead of freaking OakFlat.
Needless to say I used an Outer Appendix Carry all the way to the truck.
I have a Professional 5 Plus Kitchen Aid mixer on the way from the wife, so all turned out pretty well.
