    All Is Ok

I went up to the hills in Oroville, Ca to help a coworker pack up his house for a move to Texas and to cut the last of the free wood from his 40 acre ranch. Ironically, the wood I get from him has been felled by his bulldozer after a wildfire. As I filled up with gas I noticed a wildfire in the distance. I called my work as was told it was not a significant fire. It was in an isolated area in what is known as the Feather River gorge. As I drove up the road I saw it growing. I helped my coworker pack his things up and cut two trees - an oak and a madrone. I left my co-worker's house at 13:00 for what would have been a 1 hour drive. I arrived home just before 16:00. Where I live, I am in no imminent danger. The fire went through Paradise, CA. I believe we have a member from Paradise. It is moving towards Chico, but the south part. Overnight temps should be low and the humidity levels are higher than they are in the summer. Winds are a factor. I received a lot of questions about my safety in various threads which I read while I was driving. I could not respond. I really appreciate the concern you all have had for me. The first photo is from this morning and the others are from this evening/afternoon. CalFire Click image for larger version

Word disappeared in the post - CalFire folks are the hardest working people in California. While this fire is late in the year, I saw fully packed trucks of firefighters racing to the fire. I wish not only the residents in the affected areas the best, but the firefighters who put their lives on the line every day good luck. CaptainMike was a leader among those crews and everyone who lives in the areas where I have lived and worked thank CalFire (CDF) profusely even when they have lost personal belongings.

Yes! I have theories of how it started based on what I have seen over the past couple of weeks on my job but I won't jump to conclusions

We just talked with my sister-in-law outside Chico. All her spare bedrooms are filled with friends that had to evacuate. Wishing everyone will listen to Cal Fire and leave when told to do so.

Yes. CalFire the SO and the Highway Patrol have an obligation to save lives regardless of whether folks obey evacuation orders. That is how lives are lost not only on the civilian end but on the LE and firefighting front as well.

Thanks a ton, Mr. Bones. I went out tonight to look at the horizon. Is is aglow. I live in a farming valley at the north part of California. The mountains go up from the valley floor pretty steeply. It is different than our Central Valley. We have deep canyons. Stunning views but a lot of vegetation and they make their own firestorms. When they jump canyons all heck breaks loose.

Thank you, Chief. I went to the interactive map this morning. I knew we have a member in Paradise but it says we have one in Magalia, as well. Both towns are reported to have been devestated by the fire.

tbob4 Yes, we have one member in each town, both are current but neither have posted in a while. Shame to hear this. Thanks for your updates.

We have smoke in Roseville 80 miles away. Hope they get this thing out before it gets to close to Chico. I think Calif. is gathering emergency responders sooner than later as compared to previous fires in hopes of knocking it out quickly. Good luck up there.

Thank you. The response was interesting. Early in the morning I saw the usual responders. On my way back to my house I saw emergency vehicles driving faster than I ever have. I think the race to evacuate became really serious when the fire got to Paradise. I understand they really had almost no warning.

Thank you very much Jim - things were a little touch and go last night. While I live on the north end of town, the south end was evacuated. The fire has not reached our city limits in Chico but did get into our incorporated area.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

          the good one grill
The Good-One Open Range is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.
