I daily carry an old school Walther PPS 9mm (paddle mag release) and a cheap Kershaw knife I got at Dick's Sporting Goods. If I think I might need more firepower and I'm wearing clothes that will conceal it, I carry my Walther PPQ9mm (button mag release, unfortunately - same size and capacity as a Glock 19.) I have Aliengear IWB holsters for both. If it's shorts and t-shirt weather, I have a Kahr CW-380 pocket pistol that fits nicely in my cargo pocket in a pocket holster. It will also fit in the back pocket of my jeans without showing over the top.
I used to carry a Ruger LC9S instead of the PPS, but there were three issues I had with it: it has an amazingly light and smooth trigger. Great at the range, but dicey (to me) for concealed carry. 2) it had a thumb safety, which I felt compelled to carry with it on due to the light trigger. I wanted something I didn't feel the need to carry with the safety on. So I opted for the PPS, which has a more glock-like trigger (heavier, with a more notable "break") with no safety. Also, I'm an unapologetic Walther fanboy, so there was also that. 3) The Ruger had a magazine disconnect... so it was impossible to pull the trigger with no mag in. This and the thumb safety apparently made it "California compliant" (ie, inconvenient to carry and use.) So I sold the Ruger.
I like nice kitchen knives, but carry knives aren't that big a deal to me. I just want one that opens easily, locks in place without wiggling, and isn't complicated to unlock. I'm hesitant to spend a lot of money on a Benchmade or Spyderco, even though they're really cool.
