NFL- Vecka Fem (a little Swedish lingo there for week five)

The NFL has achieved mediocrity. Everybody is sorta OK or just bad with the exceptions of The Wams & the Chiefs, they look “bad” and bold. The state of Texas had a winner & a loser & they are tied at 2 & 3, wow! The Pack looks to be in trouble at mediocrity, losing to the lowly Lions, & the Eagle & Vikes duked it out for the middle of the pack, & the Browns have joined the foray for okayness. The Bears looked tough in their bye & wouldn’t ya know it NE and Brady “found” another answer in the receiving Corp, typical. There is a new meaning to “on any given Sunday”. It’s every Sunday on almost every given game. Mediocrity, just think, th Boys & Texans almost gave us another tie, but they battled so someone didn’t lose.
Where would we be if not for the MLB playoffs. And even that has taken on a bit of nuttiness. Yeah, I’m diggin the Brewers run, but no “starters”, just some guys who pitch a little longer than others. Anybody for horse shoes?

This is the parity that the No Fun League has been aiming for since the early 90s. To be fair, I'm sure everyone not in San Francisco or Dallas was getting tired of Cowboys and 49ers winning the Superbowl...

Oddly, the Patriots have managed to weather the storm and remain a dynasty despite the NFL's best attempts at parity. I'm pretty sure Belichick is simultaneously the smartest and cheatingest coach in NFL history. That has to be the reason they're in the playoffs and Superbowl contenders every year.

I'm convinced that Jason Garrett was playing for the tie when he called for the punt on 4th and 1 across midfield with 4+ minutes left in overtime. There was very little chance they were going to get the ball back, and only a slightly better chance that the Texans wouldn't get in to field goal range. The Cowboys D had played pretty well, but their strength had been stopping the Texans once they were already in the Red Zone. Texans had pretty decent success getting TO the Red Zone and that's all they'd need.

Jerry wasn't happy about that call. I'm starting to think that Jerry is less happy with a Yes-man puppet as the coach than he is with the mediocre record year in and year out. I think Garrett's days are finally numbered, and well past due.

JG took over mid-season in 2010 or 2011. They've gone to the playoffs twice and won one (1) game. Most fans with any knowledge around here are tired of Jerry too. But since he owns the team, he's not going anywhere until he retires and turns the reins over to his sons. Stephen is smarter than Jerry where football is concerned, so that's what we're all waiting for.

The Big Boy Texans (Watt and Clowney) did what they had to do against Dak (what kind of a name is that anyway, sounds like a card game) and the Pokes. Nuff said for Texas, both 2-3 ho-hum.

And the Brew Crew haven't met the World Champs yet, anyone for a Hamm's ?

        Short for Dakota.

Garrett handed that game to the Texans by punting in OT. The only way to not lose that game was to keep the ball out of Watson's hands.

Yea I know he's Dakota. Been following him since his Mississippi State days in the SEC. Never thought much of him but seem to bloom in the NFL. Not sure anymore, may turn out ot be a flash in the pan. Obviously I'm a Texan and NOT a Cowboys fan, it's a Texas thing

In all hindsight there appears to be one other team that is showing something. The Saints have been winning but tonight on MNF they made a statement. They just might be reckoned with as is the Wams & Chiefs.

Hey the Astros ( that would be THE Soon to Repeat World Champion Houston Astros) did a skit in their dugout after a Bregman home run where they led him down the dugout run sweeping the floor with bats like a curling team. I thought it was humorous and further endeared me to the love of my now second favorite sport....curling !!!

I saw some team doing this during a rain delay on the tarp... they got the grounds crew push brooms, and a player slid down the tarp like it was a slip-n-slide. It was pretty funny. I don't remember who it was. Might have even been a minor league team.

I got the rare privilege to meet and chat with Bum at his book signing for his book "He Ain't No Bum" . Quite a character and as you say great coach. Just never could bring them Oilers to the top of the mountain. Those AFC championship games against Pittsburgh in the mid to late 80s WAS the Super Bowl as far as I was concerned. FireMan

The mediocrity is not necessarily in the players, but the coaches. And, what would be new?

NO is cutting edge on offense - "
Gun King Trips Right 50 SwayON Go Special X Shallow Cross H Wide
". It shows in the points they put up.

Will Gruden get Carr to learn this scheme and stop throwing INT's? I doubt it.

I miss the 60's when there were 3 cameras and you could see the whole field on TV. Of course, there weren't 7 covers with a Tampa 2 and shell zone variants. There weren't 5 pro sets with spread variants, A-11 with an APB slot, and a Jet sweep. Lesser teams have moved to younger mobile QB's to run college-style options - but that won't get you to the Super Bowl.

Maybe the game itself is burning out? If Brady ever played against Lott or Tatum, he would never complete a pass to Gronk in the middle of the field. If he did, Gronk would retire if he could still think. That part of the game has been ruled out.

I can hear the NFL Death Bell. That's why the league has to go International. Or maybe all we need it bigger stadiums, and more concessions and parking sales.

Oh - wait a minute! I maybe have an idea here - merchandizing?

I'm sorry you're having to deal with that, JGo37. We can't make rules to protect against TBI and concussions for warfare, but we can make rules for sports.

I agree with your assessment that football was more entertaining decades ago. At least it was to me, when I was a child in the 70s and early 80s. That also may be that I just got more excited about football as a child than I do now.

Given the NFL's roughing the passer rules, FireMan is proposing the following: All charging fouls in the NBA should result in an an automatic ejection. MLB - Any batter who is pitched inside should be awarded 1st base. Anyone who goes two games above .500 in any league will automatically forfeit two wins. With this rule in effect, nobody should slip to two games below.

            Our Favorite Backyard Smoker

            kareubequ bbq smoker

The amazing Karubecue is the most innovative smoker in the world. The quality of meat from this machine is astonishing. At its crux is a patented firebox that burns logs above the cooking chamber and sucks heat and extremely clean blue smoke into the thermostat controlled oven. It is our favorite smoker, period.

            NK-22-Ck Grill
Napoleon's NK22CK-C Charcoal Kettle Grill puts a few spins on the familiar kettle design. In fact, the hinged lid with a handle on the front, spins in a rotary motion 180 degrees. It's hard to beat a Weber kettle, but Napoleon holds its own and adds some unique features to make the NK22CK-C a viable alternative.
