    To our Hawaiian members

Know you are busy right now with the storm but we all are thinking of you and wishing for your safety. Be safe, stay dry.

On a personal note our children and grandchildren who live on Maui luckily are visiting the old man here in Maryland this week and I am so thankful that I don’t have to worry about them.

Thinking of Hawaii today! 26 years ago on this day South Miami-Dade County residents were wondering around among the devistation from a category 5 hurricane that made landfall at 5 AM.

Hurricanes aren’t a joke. But Hawaii looks like they did their fire magic, the hurricane force winds are forecast to stay offshore. Wind probability maps suggest tropical storm force winds will skirt some islands, with the possibility of brief cat 1 conditions.

But the rain forecast looks bad. Flooding is likely. And floods can be worse than winds.

Now they have to add fire. Just was informed they are evacuating neighborhoods near Lahaina due to a large brush fire that has been burning all night.

Weird. I’m seeing reports about large amounts of rain and the threat of landslides.

I'm on Oahu and we have not been hit yet. Lane has been downgraded to a tropical storm and the bulk of the storm is supposed to turn west away from us through the night. They're calling for lots of rain but we haven't seen any yet. I don't know if we have any members out on the Big Island but my heart goes out to them. They got way too much rain in way too short a period of time. Thx for the prayers and best wishes!

We are at South Point, just below Naalehu on Big Island. Had high winds when hurricane went by, and tons of rain last few days. Is still pouring as I type. Fortunately we have gentle slope and good drainage right around us, but our peeps on east side (Hilo) are getting hammered. Lots of flooding, neighborhoods under water and many evacuations. Thankfully, the winds didn't get too crazy for any of us. Thank you all for your good wishes for the Islands !!
