I was up here in the Iron Mountain range of Michigan, a part of what is called the U.P. The U.P. might be one of two of my favorite spots on the planet of my small world, the other being Alaska. These are some pics of the remnant of the Ford plant that was used for making the wood parts for Ford’s cars & gliders in WWII. There was a collaboration by Henry Ford, Harvey Firestone, Edison & and a fella names Kingsford. They came up with an idea of what & how to make use of the scrap & refuse from the wood works of the plant. Ford owned 400,000 acres of forest & brought the wood to the factory of what was later was named Kingsford after the guy who was one of the key players in making briquettes happen. The pics I hope are in some sort of progression. The plant is just a remnant of once was & is partially used for a foundry or something.
There is a pic of a track with a bit of forest. Behind the forest is the plant. The pizza a place is right across the street from it as is the old abandoned bldg. Ford quit operations in 1951. Don’t know when the Kingsford briquette operation moved. Nothing like a run on story.
