I work for General Motors. I'm a District Sales Manager for Chevrolet and I cover 15 stores in the Boston Metro market. I absolutely love my job and the benefits it has given my family. I spent 9 years prior to this working in a dealership out in California and the work/life balance I have now is 10x better.

I just saw this because fat fingers clicked on fracmeister instead of whatever thread I was supposed to click on. How fun!
as a few might know, I used to own a whole animal butcher shop (got bought out). Prior to that corporate restaurant training and operations (9 years). All my life has been in hospitality. Everything from busboy to chef. A short sabbatical in IT (4 years) installing point of sale in hotels, restaurants and bars. The job took me all over the US, Okinawa (camp foster) and Vancouver.
besides the obvious cooking/BBQ, I am into culinary history (on the board chsocal.org) and working on getting a cooperative grocery store in Long Beach, CA (long beach grocery.coop). I also keep a fresh water aquarium. Sports are also very big in my house! NFL and MLB.

I’ve just discovered this string with the recent responses being posted. Very interesting.
Work? I think I did that at one time, but it’s hard to remember. Now I play golf, smoke meat, and—before the China virus—traveled and went to grandkid sports—baseball, basketball, and volleyball. I hope we can get back to those last two in the near future. We had our second shots today, so that’s a start.

Just to chime in, we jumped out of the market game and cashed out. Paid off the house and will save about $250,000 over the life of the loan. Still have some retirement investments and hope those continue to earn, but we've simply lost faith in many of these institutions and the ever-looming government.

My involvement in the stock market is deciding which mutual funds I want to give my money to. Split between 4 different funds. I'm just a dumb preacher. I had a church council in 2000-2001 who were all big players (or thought they were), who decided moving our church building fund into high tech overseas stocks would be a great move. I protested, because we were currently working with an architect on a building plan, and would need the money within a year. 60% gone virtually overnight.

I'm not even as smart as the "amateur" investors on Reddit. Wish I had known about this back then.

For those that might not be aware, Gamestop (GME) increased to a peak of $483 per share this month from $17 a share on January 5 due to a short squeeze (the stock was heavily shorted as folks expected it to decline) primarily driven by huge demand from retail investors on Reddit. A lot of hedge funds on the other side of the trade lost billions, but the trade eventually collapsed over the last week with the stock declining to the 60s from over $300 a share.

I understand it went up a wee bit and then also declined.
