I am the Director of Hospitality for a church in NC. Part of my duties involve all food services for the church - I fed BBQ to 220 people last weekend at a wedding. We also run a full service restaurant 6 days a week open to the public, so that scratches my chef itch. I also cater part-time (maybe 2 jobs a month).

Good grits you got going there. With that kind of food bet it's not hard to get folks to church.

SavageSmoke That is what I would call my dream job! There is a documentary on Netflix called Faith Hope and BBQ, you may enjoy. It is about a small church in Florida that sells BBQ to raise funds for their building.

I'm retired military-23 years. So, as a second career, I'm pursuing a doctorate in molecular biology...I only have 18 more months to go. To keep my sanity, my hobbies are: brewing beer, mead and cider, baking bread (been doing that since I was 7) and BBQ. I LOVE cooking anything on the grill! I have baked bread on the grill and it turned out fantastic!

As a Georgia Tech grad I always twitch a bit when I see that G but hey, we dont have a vet school!
-
Haha. Well, I actually have my undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech. So, my allegiance is kinda split. I lean UGA because I really didn’t care for Paul Johnson and the triple option and I also didn’t like that he changed the uniforms.
-
Well Paul is gone. Come on back to the fold!

I'm a misplaced Texan and am a supervisor in an international engineering firm that deals with all kinds of water equipment. I haven't been cooking as much this year as I am trying to get down to 200#. Lost 58 so far with another 50 to go. My fishing hobby does not lend itself to helping with the weight loss.

I have worked for the same electric utility for 42 years, currently a safety analyst, but have had 13 different jobs with them over the years (half the old jobs no longer exist). I love barbecuing & all types of cooking, and always have variety of tunes on the stereo. Oh yeah, & OU Sooners football - BOOMER SOONER!

I am a Program Applications Specialist for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Running reports, granting computer access, program management, and fixing errors in the system is the super simplistic break down. Been with the VA for almost 15 years, and being a Veteran myself I have seen both sides of the desk.
As far as fun stuff. Well if you couldn't tell by my job I am a bit of a computer nerd, but I don't have the attention span or the ability to sit still very well, unless it engages me A LOT, so I never finished my IT degree. Every computer that I have had since 1999 I have built myself, which reminds me I need to start shopping for parts soon. Since I have moved to Colorado I have gotten more into fishing. I have also been dabbling in woodworking. Oh yeah.. and I do a bit of homebrewing as well.

I worked for the county as Landfill manager. Now I am retired and just enjoying myself. My wife and I love to kayak in many of the small lakes in the area. We also like to get out on the bikes anr ride the back roads. Yard work in summer and snow removal in winter takes a lot of our time. Of course we love to BBQ.

I edit forms for a large insurance company. Type and grammar check, white space allocation, compliance with state regs, publication, and library management. Occasionally get to use some coding to automate. I’ve done this kind of work for many years for a few different industries. Things have come a long way since I started with a drafting table. I used to own a wholesale nursery, been a radio DJ, art director for a motorcycle magazine, tons of household DIY, and I hope to never stop learning.
I read on one of these posts about a lady that does the things her grandma did (canning, gardening, knitting, etc.). That’s me, too. I’m mostly self-taught. It’s a great way to learn things, but you also unwittingly teach yourself things that could be done easier or better.
I’ve had a couple of Genesis grills, The Big Easy smoker, and some Weber Qs. They’ve been fun to learn on. I’m saving up for my next BBQ thing, whatever that becomes. I’m looking forward to learning more about BBQ and expanding my skills.
We’re in a beautiful part of the country (Oceanside, CA) and I love to hear about life in other places. When I retire in about 10 years, I hope to visit every baseball stadium in the US. I love the game and will watch any team, any league, any level.

So, a year ago when I answered this question, I was a NASA Project Manager living in MD and commuting 120 miles / day back & forth to Goddard Space Flight Center. I'm happy to say now that I'm RETIRED! I left govt service on July 31st and have moved to sunny Port Charlotte FL. So, I'm updating my "what do you do for work" to "NOTHING". Now i just have to figure out, what do i do with all of my time...
