    BBQ Sauces

    Ok, maybe a mundane newbie question, but out of the ready made sauces, any preferences for pork ribs? I tried a few - Rays - very nice in all varieties, Stubbs - just did not like them but Bone Suckin' Sauce is my favorite - taste and texture are outstanding. My brother made a great one with one of the store bought brands as a base and added to it, but was wondering what you people favor.

    Of the store bought, not specialty type, we use SBR. I like Stubbs on my beef but my family does not.

        What style do you want? KC style, something more vinegar-like, something spicy? I'm not much of a sauce guy, but when I have it I prefer tart to sweet, especially on ribs.

        SBR is always good!
        Blues Hog makes some sauces I jus' LOVE!!!
        I also makes several varieties of my own sauce, as well as try other's recipes from here...
        That being said, more often than not, I don't use sauce.

          Agree on the Blues Hog, my favorite go to sauce for pork or chicken. Too sweet to go well on beef, but great on everything else.

        For Off the shelf, I like Sweet Baby Ray's. That said, I rarely have any store bought sauce in my pantry since I picked up a few recipes here for sauces. My favorite for all things pork is one contributed by Huskee.           I love Blues Hog sauce. They have really great sweet sauces. I use them all the time. they also have a great mustard sauce as well.

          For a finishing sauce I like to use Texas Pepper Jelly's Rib Candy. Often times, I mix the Blues Hog and the Rib Candy in a cast iron sauce pot and let them heat and get to know each other for about a half hour on low heat. Then in the last 15 mins of cooking my ribs, I carefully apply the sauce mixture to the ribs. It is really great stuff. And it gives you a boots of sweet heat on the back end.

            Apple goes great on pork. Try his one and you can up the heat with different chilis

            1 - 18 ounce bottle of Kraft Thick and Spicy barbecue sauce
            1 1/2 teaspoon of Ancho chili powder
            1 teaspoon cinnamon
            1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
            1/2 teaspoon celery seed
            1 C frozen concentrated apple juice

            1/5t. Chipotle = 1 t. Ancho = 1/2 t Texas Gun Powder

                  I'm not much of a sauce guy, but my wife has it with everything. She likes the Heinz special flavors. None of them have HFCS. That is what we really try to stay away from & it's difficult to do,most of them have it in em.
