Well my birthday isn't until Sunday, but I thought I'd go ahead and get my pictures taken so I could get the hat on the road again. Not the nicest day to que, but what do ya do if ya live in Nebraska. You do it anyway!
Three chicken quarters dry brined, MHMD, and brown sugar. I also added some Old Bay to one, Greek seasoining to one, and both Old Bay and Greek seasoning added to the last one. Taste test coming up.
Just a shot to show you how much snow we got today. It was tough for the old snow blower to get through it. Thermometer reads around 20 F.

We have two weber kettle grills (one LARGE and one small/average), the SnS and the Weber Smokey Mountain 18" smoker. We use both natural lump charcoal and KNB for smoking and measure our temps with a Maverick 733, thermopen and MK4. Favorite beer depends on what is cooking (alt answer is yes).

richinlbrg, it's a rec tec mini pellet grill. Just love that little thing. Small and portable, but bult like a tank and large enough to cook a pretty good load of food, especially if I use the upper shelf I built for it.

Will somebody be telling me who I'm supposed to send my hat too or am I supposed to just pick the next guy on the list? Also, did we set a particular amount of time that we were supposed to leave our avatar with the b-day pick?Last edited by Dr ROK; February 24, 2017, 09:09 AM.

Dr ROK You would PM the next person on the list to arrange shipping, however March only has 1 person signed up which is Atalanta and I believe Mr. Bones is currently arranging shipment. No one is currently signed up for April. Can you hold the hat for now and let's see if we get any March and April signups? The original suggestion was a week or two as your avatar, but you can keep it for as long as you want!
Calling all March and April birthdays! We have openings! Post your birthday in this thread and I'll add you!

we had a great time, had a bunch of friends out to the hanger to share food and company
6 racks of KC ribs rubbed with MD and glazed with a bourbon sauce ( some for the sauce and some for me Buffalo Trace)
2 chickens cut in half rubbed with blacken seasoning
2 2.5 lb tri tip marinated in a Bourbon marinade from Bruce Aidells Complete meat cook book, saved the marinade and made a gravy out of it. All of this was cooked on 2 PBC's, one for the ribs and the other for the chicken and tri tip the chicken came out moister than a lot of people had ever tasted and the skin was crispy, the tri tip was slow cooked to 120 and then reversed seared on my weber gasser with the grates sitting on the flavorizer bars. Friends brought a lot of great sidea and I had saved 5 Gal of my homemade Amber Brew. A good time was had by all

Originally posted by ABCBBQ Dave View PostInspired by Breadhead's family birthday hat tradition, I'm starting a new tradition for the Pitmaster Club. I'll make up the rules as we go but the gist is that we're going to pass a funny hat around and I hope it spans the globe!
The gist so far:
1) The Pitmaster Club members will pass around chef hats to wear on their birthday for a photo.
2) Once member has properly displayed the adornment, on his/her head on his/her day of birth celebrations, he/she will send it to the next club member that wants to participate.
3) Next member recipient's birthday should be far enough away the hat can be sent using a reasonable shipping method.
4) Once you've made arrangements with the person you're shipping the hat to, make a post in this thread and we'll update the list below.
5) The hat pic MUST be posted in this thread, and MUST become your avatar as well (for at least a week or two).
6) So you have to commit to wearing the hat, on your birthday, taking a photo, sharing it in The Pit, making it your avatar, and then shipping it to the next person brave, or naive, enough to participate.
7) BONUS POINTS if the photo gives you great, but legal, embarrassment. See my tips and techniques thread for the rules on cashing in bonus points. They can really stack up if you do it right.
8) International members may participate if they can arrange shipping with the person sending it to them as well as the next recipient, so this will be a case by case basis based on member's desire to participate.
fuzzydaddy has a 4th hat that he'll ship as needed to handle upcoming birthdays
