    Facebook, UGH!

So I'm sitting at my desk, glancing through my Facebook (FB) feed when I notice someone asking "I just got this really nice Prime Rib. How do I cook it?"

It was some barbecue group on FB. I belong to several.

What'd I do? Dumb me answered his question and even linked to my Prime Rib recipe as well as Meathead's article on dry brining.

Here's where no good deed goes unpunished...

A bazillion people follow up saying NEVER brine beef.

They were of course talking about WET brining and hadn't even read the links I provided.

So I go back and forth with them trying to shine the light of mythbusting on their old and tired husband's tales.

One comes back with "I'm Cordon Bleu educated blah blah blah don't brine ever".

SMH.... I thought about telling him the linked article was written by someone that TAUGHT at CB, but then figured I can't fix this problem and told him if he wants to read the article I'll chat but otherwise I'm done.

*sigh* I should have just went for a walk or something instead of surfing FB. Lesson learned.

I keep my list of Facebook friends fairly short, and there is a reason for that. If it wasn't for the ability to stay in touch with old (real life) friends who have scattered far and wide, I wouldn't even have an account.

I don't even have a FB account, or twitter, or this, or that, ... but sometimes it is depressing when some app informs me that...
        "You don't have any friends!"

David, I don't envy you here.

I'm not a fan of today's social media. I have a FB account but never post anything. It's used strictly to follow a few favorite local restaurants that are increasingly using FB instead of their old web sites to advertise specials, wine paring dinners, etc.

I come here to escape FB! I have read things from BBQ groups on FB that have honestly scared me and made me worried for the lives of people eating their food.

The dumbery on FB BBQ groups definitely astounds. There's not much respect either. I mean I don't expect them to know who I am, but it'd be nice if they at least tried to understand what I was saying before they started spouting off their nonsense.

You need to take a picture of yourself at the beach with a frilly drink in your hand then repost your response. Everyone will like it and repost it. Because I don't get to the beach often and don't make frilly drinks, I don't have a FB account. I live vicariously through my wife's FB. Boy I get myself in lots of trouble by commenting on people's posts as though I were her! 99% of the time it's with malicious intent - "It doesn't matter that the brisket was $2.60 a pound, who is going to eat 20 pounds of brisket?" she will ask with hands on hips. That's when I go to my mom's FB page (as my wife) and write something snide. I get to sleep outside and watch the wood on the smoker all night long afterwards.

                      • New Member and excited to have joined. I've got a Weber 22" kettle, a Broil King 440, and a Cookshack Smokette Original Model SM009-2. Been into BBQ for many years but apparently I've got an awful lot to learn. My current main interest in becoming more proficient in using my Weber kettle. Just ordered a Slow 'n Sear Plus and am awaiting delivery. Woo-hoo! I'm retired and presently living in Northern Virginia. Plans to move on south in mid-2018. I'm finding AR to be a terrific resource. And a fun one to boot.

I also do not have a FB account. And yes, I'm one of those who takes a look at his wife's. It never, ever, ceases to amaze me what some people will post. Just like I never, ever, believe what some people are willing to talk about on a cell phone in a restaurant, on a commuter train, on the street, you name it. I come from a time and place where people kept stuff personal. Now? Everyone seems to be invited into everyone else's life. No thanks. Wishing you the best with this Pit Boss.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

                        the good one grill

The Good-One Open Range is a charcoal grill with an offset smoke chamber attached. It is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. The grill sits low in front and doubles as a firebox for the smoke chamber which is spliced on above and behind so it can work like a horizontal offset smoker only better. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.

                        Pit Barrel Cooker Smoker

Griddle And Deep Fryer All In One

The flat top does the burgers and the fryer does the fries. Use the griddle for bacon, eggs, and home fries. Or pancakes, fajitas, grilled cheese, you name it. Why stink up the house deep frying and spatter all over? Do your fried chicken and calamari outside. Blackstone's Rangetop Combo With Deep Fryer does it all. Plus it has a built in cutting board, garbage bag holder, and paper towel holder. An additional work table on the left side provides plenty of counter space.
