    OK, What Happened and Why

I made a new topic in the bread thread yesterday and titled it "I Am Woman, Hear Me Roar". This afternoon, I see it's been changed to "I am Baker, hear..." Even the text in my comment was altered to be consistent with the title change.

    One question: WHY?

While I would hate to speculate, I would suspect that moderation actions are generally not discussed in an open forum. Seconding the PM recommendation.

I am guessing it had something to do with this:

"Last edited by Pit Boss; August 31st, 2016, 11:51 AM. Reason: Please remember we are equals in The Pit, thanks."

          But that is just mho...

I missed that. Thanks for pointing it out. Pit Boss: How can you possibly interpret my original title to mean disrespect or to suggest that I think we are not all equals? I am flabbergasted. I've used that phrase for 40 years with ZERO offense taken.

Could have been just a preventative adjustment to make sure there wouldn't be an issue. I can see it both ways, but couldn't care less either way. Personally I would let it go but that is just my normal perception on most everything. If it doesn't physically hurt or harm me or my family it isn't worth getting uppity about. Like water flowing off a ducks rear end it just flows away.

The phrase "we are all equals in The Pit" means we should not draw conclusions, positive or negative, about any individual based on that person's gender, ethnicity, or culture.

Please note by pointing out a positive one could interpret negatives may exist. As a moderator group we do not make decisions concerning moderation lightly, however in this case the moderator group felt we needed to make a minor adjustment that kept the spirit of the conversation without pointing out positives or negatives based on gender, ethnicity, or culture.

In no way do we want to take the fun, or sense of free expression, out of The Pit, as long as we remember we are all equals.

No offense intended, but you took a lot of wind out of my sails. In all seriousness, I can't even comprehend what you mean about being "all equals" vis-a-vis my post title.

Pit Boss and "moderator group" - you guys are ridiculous! This is PC nonsense. Willy made a reference to a pop song about overcoming adversity. He then even said, "The title is just a phrase I've used for many years whenever something goes well". He is CLEARLY talking about baking bread. He's not "drawing conclusions" about anybody or anybody's gender. The song inspires him. Period. I think you guys owe him an apology.

Willy in answer to your comment above, by using a gender classification to point out a certain gender should be better at baking than another gender one opens up the Pandora's box of "This gender is good at this but bad at that" and we don't want those type discussions here. A minor edit was made to your thread but in no way do we want to halt the conversation. Carry on and have fun!

JCBBQ please understand we (the moderator group) work pretty hard to keep The Pit a fun place for everyone and are fairly transparent in the very rare occasion that we moderate something. A minor edit was made. I understand your point about the song reference but that is in no way clear unless you read the title of the topic, the body of the first post, and then follow the conversation down to a comment that finally references the singer.

Let's not blow this any more out of proportion than it's already blown. Thanks.

I suggest we change the name to this site. Pit 'Master', which does have masculine connotations, could lead one to believe there could not be a Pit 'Mistress'. Can only men excel at BBQ?

I think this change went a bit too far. That song was quite a large part of musical history, and the change causes a lot of the posts to have no meaning. I can't see how anyone could really take offense at the title.

I have never made a real complaint about this site, and yes, I fully understand that it is privately owned and you can make whatever rules you want. That being said, I feel that leaning to far towards being PC could be a much bigger turnoff than this post could ever be.

My opinion, for what it is worth.

The Broil King Signet 320 is a modestly priced, 3-burner gas grill that packs a lot of value and power under the hood. Broil King's proprietary, dual-tube burners get hot fast and are able to achieve high, searing temps that rival most comparatively priced gas grills. The quality cast aluminum housing carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

                          the good one grill

The Good-One Open Range is a charcoal grill with an offset smoke chamber attached. It is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. The grill sits low in front and doubles as a firebox for the smoke chamber which is spliced on above and behind so it can work like a horizontal offset smoker only better. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.

The flat top does the burgers and the fryer does the fries. Use the griddle for bacon, eggs, and home fries. Or pancakes, fajitas, grilled cheese, you name it. Why stink up the house deep frying and spatter all over? Do your fried chicken and calamari outside. Blackstone's Rangetop Combo With Deep Fryer does it all. Plus it has a built in cutting board, garbage bag holder, and paper towel holder. An additional work table on the left side provides plenty of counter space.
