The big grocery chain here, Giant, is now selling primarily meat that just says "USDA Graded" - doesn't even say Select.

At least you can get brisket. Grocer here doesn't even stock it any more. Hopefully this is temporary.

Good score Paul! I'd take it too if it were $3/lb, Choice or not. That's a good deal for hamburger where I live for Pete's sake..

And then if people rebuild, they will just keep heifers, which means less beef headed to the feedlot.

Sorry about the link, I thought I had the subscription thing bypassed.

Article says they are getting $3.50/lb for calves or $2650/pair versus the $1.50/950 they were getting in 2010.

People are still getting over $1,000/calf at the sale barn around here. No way things can go down anytime soon, even with bumper crops this fall.

You have to be a subscriber to read it, but it appears to confirm what others have said on here. Droughts over the past several years had caused corn prices to rise which caused beef prices to rise. At least this indicates that a correction should be coming eventually.

Here's an article from Saturday's newspaper about beef prices. No good news for consumers but it does give some insight:
