    I'm an idiot...again

So I get home from work and my wife tells me she needs several mason jars including the last one in the fridge, which is a jar of Ole Smokey White Lightning, pure alcohol with about 8oz left. Not one to waste she mixes me a drink in a really big cup with about half of it. The cup is big enough to fit a few diet cokes so I figured it wouldn't be too strong, and in fact I didn't taste alcohol at all. 2 hours later I finish and don't feel buzzed or anything so I make another with the rest. Getting near the end of the second I am more focused on things (we were watching a movie so I was distracted) and I notice it doesn't taste boozey, it tastes sweet. Down around 6 ounces it was so sweet it finally made me think.

About a month ago some people were in town and I ran out of simple syrup, so I mixed up a batch quick and put it in the first jar I could find, which you could probably guess was a the White Lightning jar.

I just drank 8oz of liquid sugar, glad i'm not diabetic.

    • Started Low-N-Slow BBQ in 2012. Obviously, it's taken hold (in chronological order:
1.) A pair of Weber Smokey Mountain 22.5's
      2.) #LilTex, a 22" Expensive Offset Smoker (looks like a Yoder Witicha)
3.) #WhoDat1, a HUGE Gravity Fed Insulated Cabinet Smoker (cooking chamber 3'x2'x6')
4.) A Full Size Commercial Dryer/converted to Vertical Smoker.
5.) Jambo Backyard stickburner (my FAVORITE Pit so far)
6.) GrillMeister, a huge 24"x48" Adjustable, Charcoal Grill from Pitmaker.com
      7.) 22" Weber Kettle with Slow-N-Sear
8.) Vault insulated reverse-flow cabinet smoker from Pitmaker
      9.) BarbecueFiretruck...under development
10.) 26 foot BBQ Vending Trailer equipped with HUGE Myron Mixon 72xc smoker is HERE, Oct 2016!
11.) Opened www.PaulsRibShackBarbecue.com Food Trailer officially in March 2017
12.) Austin Smoke Works 500 Gallon Propane Tank Offset Smoker, named "Lucille" as travel pit for PaulsRibShack, Oct 2018.
12.) Opening Brick & Mortar location at 4800 Nelson Rd, Spring 2019. Had a pair of 1,000 Gallon Austin Smoke Works pits, both in RibShackRed for our new place!

Fabulous Backlit Thermapens, several Maverick Remote Thermometers (don't use any remotes anymore), Thermoworks Smoke, Other Thermoworks toys, Vacuum sealer, lots and lots of equipment...

I'm loving using BBQ to make friends and build connections.
I have #theRibList where I keep a list of new and old friends and whenever I'm cooking, I make 1 to 20 extra and share the joy.

Sounds like my kind of white lightning.

Maybe drink that before you need 100 towels to soak up a pond of water.

Great story John . You must have thought you were immune to alcohol for a few minutes there before you figured things out.

Haha! Great story! I may be a bigger idiot than you though. I didn't want to spend $40 on a pizza stone for my oven. So I went to home depot and bought a stepping stone that I thought was made of clay. Wrong, it was concrete. I get it home, put it in my oven, and crank it up as hot as it will go. After 50 minutes I check it, looks fine. About 5 minutes later, a huge explosion from my kitchen. I go in, the oven door is on the ground about 3' from the oven. Every horizontal surface in my kitchen was covered in gravel. The inside of my oven is was no longer square. It was now a rounded out, more oval looking square. The gas element inside was broken too. The concrete got too hot and had exploded. Good thing not while I checked on it. So, instead of spending $40, I spent about $600 on a new oven/range AND a real pizza stone. That may be the stupidest thing I've done as an adult. Just thought I'd share

I'm embarrassed to say that I laughed out loud at your story, Ninja Q . I know it must have been horrible, but down the long lens of history, it's a hilarious story. You have my sympathy for your troubles as I snort-laugh away.

As a young single fellow I was living in a house with other young guys, it was my turn to cook so I was going to deep fry something cant remember what I've probably banned it from my memory, anyway I put a pot of oil on the stove and heated it up waiting for it to bubble so I could put the food in just like every other time I had seen oil at the fish and chip shop it was bubbling....needles to say it didn't end all that well and I was banned from cooking duties for a while.

John, that's such a funny story. It could have been worse, I imagine. Never trust a rogue container in the refrigerator must be the moral of the story.
