However, I will occasionally have a vanilla porter float in the summer (Empyrean Vanilla Porter w/a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream) as I usually drink stouts & porters in the colder months, pale ales & IPAs in the warmer months. I have to add Not Your Father's Root Beer to beers I use for floats.
      * - Booze - I don't really have a favorite, but lean towards single malt Scotch & Irish whiskey
      * - Wines - Reds: mainly the heavy stuff mixed in with the occasional pinot noir ( I have yet to meet a malbec I didn't like); Whites: German & Nebraska (hey, I have to support the home team)
      * - Favorite Spice outlets - Frisco Spices in LaVista, NE (the local butcher supply shop); Volcanic Peppers in Bellevue, NE
      * - Current butchers: Just Good Meats & Fareway Foods

What's the smallest caliber handgun you feel safe and protected carrying?

I remember one time hiking with my friend Justin in northern Alberta and out of nowhere comes this brown bear charging at us. Not sure, but it was likely a female angry because we were near her cubs, but we didn't realize this of course.

Anyway, if it hadn't been for my little Beretta Jetfire, I wouldn't be here to tell this story. All it took was one shot, placed just right (which was amazing considering how scared I was) into Justin's kneecap to knock him down and distract the bear.

I was able to walk back to the truck at a comfortable pace and not shake my beer.

    Thank you Beretta!

As I ponder some New Year's Resolutions I feel I have come up with a good start to a list:

      1. Gain more weight
      2. Drink More
      3. Make less money
      4. Don't learn any new skills/trades
      5. Spend less time BBQing

I figure since I typically fail horribly at New Year's Resolutions that by spring I should be a: skinny, sober, rich, multitalented professional BBQer.

I heard some sad news today. After seven years of medical training and hard work, my very good friend has been struck off after one minor indiscretion and I think it's outrageous. He slept with one of his patients and now can no longer work in the profession that he loves. What a waste of time, training and money. A genuinely nice guy and a brilliant vet.

gcdmd My favorite Yogi Berra story—can’t vouch for its validity:

It’s a hot sweltering day in August in NYC. Yogi, dressed in a snazzy bright green suit, is attending a formal function with the mayor. As he walks down the greeting line, the mayor’s wife says: “My, Mr. Berra, don’t you look cool.” Sez Yogi: “Thank you Ma’am, you don’t look so hot yourself.”

A guy went to interview for a job at the Post Office. The interviewer asks him if he has any allergies. "Yes, Ma'am, I'm allergic to coffee." She asks him if he has any other medical conditions. Rather embarrassed, he sheepishly replied, "Yes Ma'am, I lost my testicles in an accident during combat."

"Well", the interviewer said, "I have looked over your work history and resume. You scored as well as anyone and you also get bonus points for your service to our country so I'm hiring you right now, full time. You can start tomorrow - work hours are 10:00-16:00."

Pleased, but puzzled, the guy asks "Why am I starting at 10:00 when the flyer says the job is from 08:00 - 16:00 every day?"

"Oh", the interviewer said "This is a Government job. For the first two hours the guys just sit around drinking coffee and scratching their nuggets"

Earl and Mabel went to the State Fair every year. Year after year Earl wanted to take the a helicopter ride but Mabel wouldn't permit it, she said, "Earl, $50 bucks is $50 bucks." After overhearing this same conversation many times, the chopper pilot offered, "I'll give you both a ride and if you don't make a sound I won't charge you". So, up they go and the pilot was determined to give them a ride of a lifetime. Part way through a sharp turn and dive, Mabel slides out of her seat and disappears. Once landed the pilot looks back to see only Earl and asks what happened to Mabel. Earl says "she fell out back there." Horrified, the pilot asks "why didn't you say something?" Earl replied "$50 bucks is $50 bucks."

Lloyd and Harry grabbed their poles and headed out to do some ice fishing. As they were augering a hole in the ice they heard a loud voice from above say, "There are no fish under the ice."

Lloyd and Harry moved about 25 feet over and started to make another hole. The voice said a little stronger, " There are no fish under the ice."

They both looked around and then looked up. Lloyd said in a humble voice, "Are you God?"

The voice spoke back, "No ya idiots! I'm the ice rink attendant."

The Good-One Is A Superb Grill And A Superb Smoker All In One

        the good one grill

The Good-One Open Range is a charcoal grill with an offset smoke chamber attached. It is dramatically different from a traditional offset smoker. The grill sits low in front and doubles as a firebox for the smoke chamber which is spliced on above and behind so it can work like a horizontal offset smoker only better. By placing the heat source behind and under the smokebox instead of off to the side, Open Range produces even temperature from left to right, something almost impossible to achieve with a standard barrel shaped offset.

        Pit Barrel Cooker Smoker

Griddle And Deep Fryer All In One

The flat top does the burgers and the fryer does the fries. Use the griddle for bacon, eggs, and home fries. Or pancakes, fajitas, grilled cheese, you name it. Why stink up the house deep frying and spatter all over? Do your fried chicken and calamari outside. Blackstone's Rangetop Combo With Deep Fryer does it all. Plus it has a built in cutting board, garbage bag holder, and paper towel holder. An additional work table on the left side provides plenty of counter space.
