“If you have any young friends who aspire to become writers, the second-greatest favor you can do them is to present them with copies of The Elements of Style. The first-greatest, of course, is to shoot them now, while they’re happy.” (originally published in a review in Esquire, 1959)

I’ve had friends ask what advice I would give their kids/family/friends that want to be photographers...

I alway tell them, “Have their head examined. If they fail that and are found to be nuts...work hard and go for it.” LOL I’ll also generally add that it’s not nearly as easy/fun as it looks from the outside...and there can be LOTS of downtime...desk/phone time...way too much time spent not doing what you actually want to be doing. LOL

A pair of quotes from Dorothy Parker. Especially applicable to now:

For every single day, reading the news:
“Civilization is coming to an end, you understand.” (The Paris Review)

        Ditto:
“What fresh hell can this be?” (everyone’s favorite Dorothy Parker quote, though often misquoted, here reported in You Might as Well Live: the Life and Times of Dorothy Parker, by John Keats)

I really like the last one. I need a t-shirt with that on it. . .

However, I will occasionally have a vanilla porter float in the summer (Empyrean Vanilla Porter w/a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream) as I usually drink stouts & porters in the colder months, pale ales & IPAs in the warmer months. I have to add Not Your Father's Root Beer to beers I use for floats.

Heart broken. Please join me in remembering a great icon of the baking community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies and Captain Crunch. The gravesite was piled high with flours. Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Born and bread in Minnesota, Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filed with turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man, and was considered a positive roll model for millions. Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes. If you smiled while reading this, please rise to the occasion and pass it on to someone having a crumby day or kneading a lift. They will thank you!

I knead some time to process his passing. I’m absolutely floured beyond belief. I cannot believe he died before he was done.

Thank you to all that wished me all the best for 2020. I would just like to point out it did not help.
So for 2021 I will only accept cash, beef forequater, whole lamb and chicken wings. Jagermeister, charcoal and box wine will do some gas for the vehicle will be appreciated.
To those I was horrible to in 2020 send $20 airtime so I can phone you to apologise.
