I'm sure the report will be consistent with the tenets of Agenda 21 (UN) and red meat will once again be declared unhealthy, unsustainable, and the goal will be to make it unaffordable.

I've always eaten whatever I wanted. With the heart problem, we've been trying to avoid salt. So, going out to dinner has become a very infrequent event. I have to cook. That usually only happens on Saturdays. So, diet has changed.

Last checkup, they told me that I need to have more protein and less carbohydrates. I said, "does that mean you're telling me to eat more meat and less fruits and vegetables?" They were somewhat taken aback at my question, but finally said "yes"

Give them 6 months to a year and somebody else will do a study and it will be good for you again Ha ha! Just like chocolate and anything else that some one decides to waste money on studying. I'm with Jerod let them talk and bring the price down, I will be the first in line.

Get the prices down too far, and ranchers and feed lots will go out of business. Their profit margins are already very slim. Most ranchers raise cattle as a hobby that pays for itself, or for an agricultural tax exemption on rural lands. I don't know of a single rancher that makes a large profit, and I know most of the large ones in Florida - Ben Hill Griffin, Duda, Alico, Lightsey, Lykes, etc.

So happy thee is a thread on this. I've read the study, and also looked at previous ones and there are a couple of points you can make to your vegan friends crowing "I told you so!":

• studies done on a strictly vegan population in the UK unearthed similar instances of cancer occurance
• red meat was classed as "Probably" linked to increased risk for colorectal cancer. The BIG nasty conclusion from the study was that processed meats are "Definitely Carcinogenic" and will eventually give you cancer. So red meat a lot lower there on the risk scale. Other things classed as Probably are having a wood fire in your house, being a hairdresser, and doing shift work that disrupts your circadian rhythms.
• there is no distinction as to what kind of meat being consumed (grass fed, all pork, mix of the two, all grain fed...). Anyone who's seen a marbled grain fed steak v a grass fed one can tell you there is a marked difference
• there is also no indication of how MUCH red meat would push you into the danger zone.

so if you're a pitmaster, you were going to get cancer anyway from being around your lovely wood fire, having mad cutting skills and an awesome hair do, and staying up all night to time your brisket properly....so a little red meat is likely to not hurt!!

The interesting thing I found in this conclusion v other things on the Probably list is that humans do in fact need red meat to properly develop and stay healthy....Vitamin B12 for example is unattainable from plants, and selenium is as well; both are critical to proper brain formation and development. Iron from meat is also much more bioavailable to the human body than plant-based iron sources. Grass fed beef is high in CLA's which FIGHT cancer. So this is, to my knowledge, the only compound on the WHO's Probably list which is necessary to human life and development. Ie, it's not a choice like tobacco, alcohol etc

I'll continue to much on my happily-raised and grass fed little flavor bombs, thank you very much
