I just learned about a nifty way to make berries and fresh fruit into an "adult" dessert--bachelor's jam. It's simply berries and other fresh fruit crammed into a jar (I used quart canning jars), covered with strong alcohol and some sugar, then left to stew in the back of the pantry for a few weeks or more. I made five quarts using raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries and covered them with dark rum, light rum, brandy, vodka, and a 50/50 mix of rums.
I'm wondering what kinds of fruits and alcohols any of you might have tried. I'm thinking gin and tequila might work, not sure about whiskey. I've also got some mangoes, kiwis, pineapple, bananas, and pears ready to go in a couple days for a more "tropical" batch (I know, pears ain't tropical).
