I use mostly CookinPellets. When I started with pellet grills, the only thing available locally was Traeger. I did a group buy with a couple co-workers on LumberJack and had a lot of problems with ash on my food (but had a lemon for a pellet grill at the time, so it definitely could have been that, but that's a long story). With the next pellet grill, I didn't trust the LumberJack pellets, so I found CookinPellets and liked that they don't use bark and use 100% species wood and have used them primarily since. They seem to burn cleaner than other brands I've tried and get delivered to me via Amazon or direct from CookinPellets when I buy bulk. I use both Hickory and Perfect Mix. I occasionally use Weber pellets or Traeger if I run out and need to get some quickly, but haven't tried Bear Mountain or BBQer's delight. There's definitely a lot more options in the past 5 years.

LSG Adjustable Grill/Smoker, MAK Pellet Grill, Large BGE with Several Attachments from the Ceramic Grill Store, Weber Gasser, Cast Iron Pans & Griddle, Grill Grates, Mostly Thermoworks Thermometers, Avova SV Stick, BBQ Guru Controller and Fan
Usually I use a blend from Lumberjack or Bear Mountain because they are available in my area. BBQ Delight are really good IMO too but I need to order those so I only get them once in awhile.

I have been using Cookinpellets.com for over 10 years. I cook pretty frequently, order a pallet a year and give away a few bags to friends or customers. I mostly use the Perfect Blend. I do typically have them mix in a few bags of 100% hickory.
Regardless of brand, pellet grill hygiene is important and cleaning out the ashes is important. I do it after just about any extended cook. If you don't clean out your pellet smoker, you will have a problem sooner or later. It is a good idea to empty your hopper of pellets if you won't be using for awhile. I have had to clear the pellets several times after moisture. They get really hard like concrete and it is a pain in the butt to clear the auger.

Favorite Whiskey: Jack Daniels
Favorite Beer: Dogfish Head 90 Minute
I use Lumberjack competetion blend (Maple Hickory Cherry) and supreme blend (oak Hickory cherry). My brothers and I order a pallet of 40# bags at a time split them. Pretty cheap that way and always had good luck with lumberjack pellets.

I have been using cooking pellets hickory and their blend with good results. I like LumberJack too. Though I did end up getting two bags of the charhickory and although the aroma was nice, it definitely was a dirtier cook.
I saw Lowe's has pit boss bags for significantly less, so after seeing some good reviews of them in this thread, I will be trying them out next.

Backyard Jambo, T1000 Woodmaster, MAK 2 star, 14" & 22" WSM, 2x 22" Weber Kettle, Stoven, Hot Box Grill, Hasty Bake Ranger, RecTeq Bullseye, GMG Davy Crockett; Original Grilla and others I'm not remembering!
I get all the broken bags I want to take home! I've gotten very creative with packing tape patching up holes in bags. I believe I've used every brand mentioned above, plus a few that are no longer in business.

I went down this road when I got my Yoder a couple years ago an tried every pellet brand and wood type I could find. I cook on mine at least twice a week generally more especially in the winter (it's the cooker that takes the least amount of tending). Therefore I've gone through a fair amount of fuel. IMHO any brand on sale is the best one to use. To me none of them has had any distinguishable difference in performance.
I now run hickory or oak on 95% of my cooks. Other than mesquite I cannot taste any difference in the different woods. Once in a while I like mesquite when cooking chuck roasts.
Lumberjack or Camp Chef are the pellets that I find in my area that are usually the best price so they are what I'm now using most.
"You know what they call a pit master that states they can taste the difference between apple and cherry?"
I like the idea of buying a pallet to split up with a neighbor, I'm going to make that happen.
Enjoy your Yoder, keep it clean and you'll love it. It's a great rig.Last edited by hogdog6; November 6, 2020, 10:01 AM.

I have tried several brands.
My favorite is BBQ'rs Delight. BTW, they are the maker for B&B pellets. They are simply rebranded and bagged for B&B. I buy the B&B's from Ace Hardware or Academy Sports. I keep the B&B in reserve. When I get down to one 40 lb sack, I buy more.
