I bought a YS480S this past June, I bought it because I travel and wanted something substantial to withstand the rigors of travel. I was at first thrilled with the Yoder, buying made in USA was very important to me having seen plenty of Chinese stuff. I have had a real issue with trying to change temperature, the digital readout would change but the controller would not change the temp. I called Yoder, they said it must be at least 35 degrees to change temperature. I told them that mine would not change unless the new temp was at least 50 degrees from set-point and sometimes I need to go to 75 or more degrees to get it to change. I have called Yoder 3 times to try to get this fixed. No help. A few days ago it started blowing the fuse, happened numerous times, finally the fuse holder broke from over activity. I called Yoder about this, they asked for pictures, I sent them, we trouble shot this and determined it was the igniter, Yoder is sending out a new igniter and fuse holder. Good. The next issue is rust. The chrome shelves are rusting, the bottom shelf is rusting, one of the hinges is rusting, the spring handle is rusting. This grill has never been left uncovered, even when inside it is covered. When I spoke with Yoder about the rust the representative told me to buff it out with steel wool, I told him that would only cause the really thin chrome to be eroded more and rust more. No help again. Nothing on the hinge either. In order to deal with the rust on the shelves he said he would send out more paint.
I paid over $1500 for this grill and did it because I thought it was a quality grill and built in the USA, still means a lot to me. This time I am afraid that was a mistake. Other than the igniter and fuse all the issues are ignored.
The following paragraph is from the Yoder representative;
When paint issues are not addressed as they become apparent, it is hard to prevent the adjacent areas from becoming affected. You will find that it is easy to perform any paint touchup on our cookers that will keep it looking good for years to come.
As I said it has always been under a Yoder cover, the rust on the bottom shelf was probably from any moisture dripping down the cover, I do not know how to prevent this other than keeping it in the living room. If the issue is the cover not fitting properly and allowing rust, I guess I don't know what to do about the cover issue. I know that buffing the rust from the chrome parts will only aggravate the rust issue.
Final thoughts; If you want a heavy well built grill that you can keep away from moisture including humidity and don't mind buffing and painting and having a wide temperature cooking range this is it.
